Just in time for 2019! New Korean dramas will be invading our screens soon. So better add these upcoming Kdrama 2019 to your watch list.

2018 has given us the best blockbuster dramas all year long. From the funny yet dramatic What’s Wrong with Secratary Kim to the tearjerker epic drama, Mr. Sunshine. So as 2019 begins, let’s make sure to refresh our Kdrama watch list with a fresh batch of star-studded Hallyu shows. Here are our top picks for the Upcoming Kdrama 2019! List them!

Three words: Lee Seung-Gi! A gripping spy thriller, Vagabond, Lee Seung-Gi sill be co-starring with Bae Suzy, once again. Seung-Gi will be playing as a stuntman who gets involved in a plane crash investigation that drags him to uncover the country’s deep-rooted corruption. During the investigation, he becomes involved wih Suzy’s character, Go Hae-ri, an intelligence spy on a covert operation. Expect an action-packed series and heart-stopping stunts from both leads. What’s more is that some shots were filmed in Morocco and Portugal that will give us the best spy feels for all time! ‘Vagabond’ will have us hanging by the thread every second.

‘Vagabond’ will be broadcasted by SBS and will be released around May 2019.


If you’ve enjoyed Korean historical dramas and love zombie movies at the same time, then you’re in luck. A Netflix original, ‘Kingdom’, is about the crown prince Lee Chang (Ju Ji-Hoon) who is denounced from his throne after the dead king comes back to life. He goes on a suicide mission after a plague spreads wide in the kingdom. The plague is turning people to zombies who are active or wakes up only during the night. Together with Ju Ji-Hoon are Bae Doo-Na from Sense8 and Ryu Seung-ryong from Miracle in Cell No. 7.

‘Kingdom’ is definitely not your typical period drama. With the zombie factor added and with top-notch actors, it is definitely a show to watch. You can watch ‘Kingdom’ on Netflix around January 25, 2019.

The Light in Your Eyes

Another must-watch fantasy romantic comedy, ‘The Light in Your Eyes’ or ‘Dazzling’ brings a new take on time travel stories. This drama series tells the story of a woman who lost her time before she got to use it and a man who lives his greatest days by wasting them away. Kim Hye Ja (Han Ji-Min) is an honest and positive woman who wants to be an announcer. But an unexpected encounter makes her a 70-year old woman. But as her 70-year old self, she gains the ability to manipulate time. She then gets involved with Lee Joon-Ha (Nam Joo-Hyuk), who wants to become a reporter.

The story will show how two people live in the same time struggle in life in completely different times. Despite being light, expect that you will learn a lot about appreciating the time in your life with ‘Dazzling’. JTBC will be premiering the shows around February 2019.

That Psychometric Guy

Ahgase! Let me hear you scream! ‘That Psychometric Guy’ stars Got7’s very own Jin Young and his JYP labelmate Shin Ye-Eun. The story follows a young man Lee Ann (Jin Young) who has a psychometric ability that allows him to read the secrets of those people whose skin comes in contact with him. After getting used to his abilities he decides to catch all the “evil” people in the world. In his journey, he meets Yoon Jae-In (Shin Ye-Eun) a mysterious girl who pretends to live a perfect life. Together, they try to solve cases while learning the small and big occurrences in their intertwined lives.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jin Young and Ye-Eun in dramas. So expect that this new fantasy drama series will give us more of what they’ve got! It will air on tvN during the first half of 2019, so stay tuned!

Touch Your Heart

This is the ultimate OTP, people! Back to tug our hearts strings are Lee Dong-wook and Yoo In-na in this romance web novel adaptation. ‘Touch My Heart’ tells the story of Oh Yoon-Seo (Yoo In-na), a popular actress with bad acting skills and a prickly, cold-hearted lawyer, Kwon Jung-Rok (Lee Dong-wook). Yoon-Seo gets involved in a scandal that brings the downfall of her acting career.

A famous scriptwriter eyes her as a lead female for a drama series. The role is a lawyer’s secretary and to gain experience for the role, Yoon-Seo needs to work as a lawyer’s secretary for a few months. This brings in the arrogant and prickly Jun Rok who is an attorney at a law firm. His boss asks Jun Rok to let Yoon-Se work as his secretary for 6 months. He is not happy about it but he accepts.

So if you got cut off with their cliffhanging budding romance in ‘Goblin’, then ‘Touch My Heart’ is our chance to see more of these two. Will ‘Touch My Heart’ give us their well-deserved romance and a happy ending? I hope so! tvN will air the show in January 2019.


In another tvN drama series, Park Bo Young will star in ‘Abyss’. After a mysterious incident with a bread, a beautiful female prosecutor and an ugly man are completely changed. The beautiful prosecutor turns into an average-looking woman while the ugly man turns into a handsome man. Because of this incident, the prosecutor decides to investigate about the incident that twisted her life. And on the process of doing so, the two find love.

There are no news yet on who will be the male lead yet but one thing’s for sure. This Park Bo-Young lead series will be another romance is what we need. ‘Abyss’ is set to air on tvN during the first half of 2019.

Because It’s My First Love

A Netflix Original, ‘Because It’s My First Love’ features a long triangle for our 2019 romance feels. The story revolves around a love triangle between three friends who never thought about dating during their college years. Starring Ji Soo, Jung Chae Yeon and Jung Jin Young, the three leads will wander in their 20s in search for love, the building of friendships and the realization of their dreams.

The story is pretty straight forward with the love triangle. And I believe that a lot of people can relate to the story, since it’s set during the characters’ college days. There’s a lot to expect from this show and I can definitely say that Netflix is owning it on the Korean drama aspects. Way to go! The series is set to be released in January 2019.

Adapted from a popular webtoon, ‘Item’ is a fantasy drama is about the prosecutor Kang Gon (Ju Ji-Hoon) and criminal profiler Shin So-Young (Jin Se-Yun). Kang Gon must form an alliance with So-Young in roder to save his niece. They’ve decided themselves that they will uncover the secrets of supernatural objects that possess special powers of protection.

It’s been three long years since we’ve seen Ju Ji-Hoon. So with his return, the action-packed series will give us another reason to be on the edge of our seats. MBC will air the series around February 2019.

Love Alarm

Joalarm is a cellphone app that rings when someone who likes you is withing 10 meters of you. It also shows how many people like you. Because of the app, Kim Jo-Jo (Kim So-Hyun) gets tangled into a complicated love triangle with her two classmates, Hwang Sun-oh (Song kang) and lee Hee-young (Jung Ga-ram).

Netflix is really getting into making webtoon adaptations and Kdramas. And so far, they have not yet disappointed the fans. tvN and Netflix has yet to announce when they will release the show in 2019. But expect to see this show any time soon.

Romance is a Supplement

If you missed Lee Jong-Suk, then say no more! This romantic comedy series will follow the lives of employees who work at a publishing company. Most importantly, it will tell the story of kang Dan-yi (Lee Na-young) a former writing star and an unemployed divorcee and a talented writer Cha Eun-ho (Lee Jong-Suk). Dan-yi, being unemployed, later joins a publishing company as a temporary worker. There she meets Eun-ho, the company’s youngest editor-in-chief.

The story will tell how the employees at the publishing company, especially Dan-yi and Eun-ho navigate through their life of the 30s. The series will premiere on January 26, 2019 on tvN.
