Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie adaptation will hit the big screens soon! And here’s all you need to know!

Halloween might be a few months away but André Øvredal and Guillermo del Torro are bringing us an early taste of the eerie and spooky. Coming to hit the cinemas is the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie adaptation this August 2019!

If you’re not familiar, ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ is a series of children’s horror book. It was written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell. Most of the stories are heavily based on folklore and urban legends. Despite being a children’s book, it has disturbing illustrations that bring the stories to life. The movie will feature the stories ‘The Big Toe’, ‘The Red Spot’, ‘The Jangly Man’, and ‘The Dream’.

‘The Big Toe’ tells the story of a young boy who digs up a human toe from his backyard. That night, he lets his mother cook the toe and they eat it (weird flex but okay, I guess). Then the undead owner of the toe haunts them looking for his toe while wailing in the darkness: “Where is my to-o-o-o-o-e?”. The owner of the toe is described as having big eyes, big claws and sharp teeth.

While ‘The Red Spot’ starts with a spider crawling on a sleeping young girl’s face. The next morning, the girl notices a red spot on her face. Eventually, the spot grows into a boil until it bursts and “swarm of tiny spiders from the eggs their mother had laid in her cheek” comes out from it. Freaky-deaky, am I right?

And if you think that those stories are just for kids, then you thought wrong. It can probably haunt you in your dreams if you’re a scaredy cat. del Toro and Øvredal, being masters of making horror movies will assure that this is no ordinary spooky movie.
