A user-generated award-giving body? Yep, say hello to the Spotify Awards!
The Spotify Awards are here! Unveiled just today, Spotify officially announced that they will now have their own awards show. And here’s the best part, the nominations and results will all be based on user-generated data! No biases here! Yes, we’re looking at you, Grammy’s.
The inauguration will take place on March 5, 2020, at the streaming capital of the world, Mexico City.
On their website, they’ve explained that users “plays, patterns, and habits will help determine the award categories, finalists, and winners, for the Spotify Awards by providing a true reflection of what fans are listening to.”
You can check out Spotify’s official announcement video, right here! Although the video is in Spanish, so you might wanna turn on the subtitles.
A fair award-giving body?
Honestly, the Spotify Awards seem like a really great idea. Because it’s based on pure user-generated data. And is not influenced by big recording companies and such. Well, at least we hope so. Because who’s to say that Spotify won’t bend to say intimidation, bribery, or personal biases. And we’ve been badly burned by awards show like the Grammy’s.
