Our favourite lady assassin, Maria, finally made it to Netflix! So get ready for some action!
I know we all couldn’t wait to stream ‘Maria‘, but a little background wouldn’t help. No spoilers, we promise, just a little background! From what we can see from the trailer, ‘Maria’ is about a lady assassin who got out of the cartel (we won’t say how). The cartel spots her, kills her family and that’s where all the action starts. Maria is out to have her sweet, sweet revenge. Okay, I guess we can’t deny the fact that it has some kind of semblance to ‘John Wick’. I don’t know about you, but it kinda reminds me of the plot in that film. Only in ‘Maria‘, the family is a heavier motivation than a dog. Pinoys like it heavy and dramatic, even when it’s an action film. Check out the trailer!
Also, it is exciting to see a woman play the role that mostly, men would. Though derivative for some, ‘Maria‘ is still a huge step in redefining the Pinoy action movie flavor. ‘Maria’ is made to be a formidable character of strength instead of a damsel in distress waiting to be saved. No, it’s not like that. She wants revenge, she’ll get it herself. And quite honestly, we’re happy that it’s already on Netflix for us to watch on repeat, along with other great Filipino movies!
‘Maria’ shows Cristine Reyes as we’ve never seen her before. The beauty and the sexiness are still there, but she’s not going to be an oppressed wife or a cutesie girlfriend. She shows fierceness and strength in this movie, which is exciting because Cristine isn’t really known for fighting and action. All in all, ‘Maria’ is a total badass lady boss and is unlike any other roles we’ve seen Cristine play. Considering that this is new to her, we already know that Cristine put in a lot of work into this film. This was a challenge she took and she certainly did good!
But of course, check out our interview with the heroine of the film, Cristine Reyes!

We also had the chance to talk with the man behind this action-packed film, Director Pedring Lopez himself!
To top it all of, here’s our chat with Mr. Bones and The Boneyard Circus as they share with us the process of their OST making for ‘Maria’.
And finally, the amazing red carpet premiere night!
Knowing that this film is already on Netflix makes us giddy with excitement over the film’s success! If you haven’t watched ‘Maria’ yet, now would be the perfect time to do so. It’s certainly great to see all of these Pinoy movies getting global reach, don’t you think? Share us your thoughts on the comments down below! Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh!
