Is this the end of a 24-year tradition? Has the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show officially come to an end?
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2018
Don’t count on seeing your favorite Victoria’s Secret Angels on the runway this year! Because the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is officially canceled!
L Brands, the company that owns Victoria’s Secret, released the announcement earlier today on November 21st. As per Fortune, the brand decided to cancel the show because it’s part of a plan to, “evolve the messaging of the company.”
Although the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is an iconic pop-cultural event, the support for it is not as strong as it used to be. And that maybe because of the rising support instead of movements for body positivity. And well, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has always promoted unhealthy and unattainable body standards. Even former models for the company, like Karlie Kloss, separated themselves from the brand in the name of feminism.
So here’s to promoting body positivity!
ICYDK, the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show started way back in 1995. And if it had pushed through this year, it would have been the 24th Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show ever. But we think 23 years is long enough. It’s time for big brands like Victoria’s Secret to adapt to the times. And having an hour-glass figure and lacy lingerie isn’t at the top of most modern women’s lists anymore.
So honestly, we’re happy that the brand has finally acknowledged that a celebration for unhealthy and unattainable body standards is no longer the “norm”. And that they’re taking this time to step back and reevaluate what message their brand sends. So don’t look for any Angels this holiday season, because the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is officially canceled!
