FEATURES: Gossip Girl is making a comeback?!

“Hello, Upper East Siders! Gossip Girl here. And I have the biggest news!” Gossip Girl is making a comeback and we’re so stoked! Here’s everything we know about it!

Airing back in 2007, Gossip Girl probably is one of the best American teen drama of the 2000s. The show got 18 Teen Choice nominations in total in its six-season run and due to its success had adaptations all over the globe! You know, nothing big. People say that the world did end in 2012 and it felt like it did because so did Gossip Girl. The show has grown close to everyone’s heart at the time. And the fact that it ended so soon was a bummer.

This being said, we’re more than thrilled to let you know that it’s finally going to make a comeback!

Gossip Girl

Narrated by a blogger aliased “Gossip Girl” who was voiced by Kristen Bell, the show revolved around the life of privileged upper-class adolescents in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. While we can’t deny being stans of the show, we couldn’t deny that the show impacted us in ways unimaginable. Revolving around, well, gossip, the show gave us first row seats to the exposure of Manhattan’s elite’s secrets!

And now, the show will open 8 years after the Gossip Girl website has gone dark, introducing us to a new set of high school elites!

The age of reboot

2019 is the year of reboots or remakes. With ‘Charlie’s Angel‘ finding its way back only with different casting, Lion King’ getting a live-action remake, and some others of our childhood classics getting sequels, we can say that 2019 is the year to satisfy the ’90s kids in us. So many things have been stressing us out lately and it’s nice to have these shows be remade to bring us back every once in a while!

However, while the glamorization of the elites was a-okay in the late 2000s, we wonder how it would be accepted nowadays. The 2000s was the age of fashion statements and glamour. A time when living like Paris Hilton was considered ideal. Looking at it now, we can see that there’s no cultural diversity shown in Gossip Girl at all. No person of color, no plus-people. We’re thrilled to see if the nostalgia that Gossip Girl brings with it will be enough to make it a good content to show in 2019. So much more now that society and the way people look at things have changed so much. Because of this, the 2019 Gossip Girl would have to get a major make-over. This being said, we can’t wait to see how the producers of the series would acclimate the show into today’s world!

New Cast

I know, we’re bummed, too. We’d actually love to see Blake Lively and Leighton Meester return to the screen as well as the others to pick up where they left off in the last season. But it looks like the wish-granting genie that is Warner Media had other plans.

So far, we don’t see any of the original cast returning, although Chace Crawford previously offered to cameo. This means we’re going to get a new set of characters and actors for this comeback. I know you might be asking your whys right now, but let’s give the show a chance! It’s true that the show is considered iconic. Not bringing in the original cast might be considered ruining it, but who knows? Good things might come out of this. Besides, fresh faces might be helpful to the series, since Gossip Girl really is about adolescents. We could only think about how Blake and the other guys would pull it off now that they’re in their 30’s. But would it be asking for too much to have them play their characters even for cameos or supporting roles? And besides, would it even be Gossip Girl without the original cast?

Rumor has it that we’ll be waiting for the Gossip Girl comeback. Are you as excited as we are?  Share us your thoughts on the comments down below! Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh. XOXO, Gossip Girls!
