Eight long years. Game of Thrones took the world by storm for eight years. So let’s take a walk down the memory lane of the best Game of Thrones moments that made us cry all for the last eight years of our life! (Spoilers alert!)

It has been indeed a good long run for HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones. Despite the anti-climactic ending we’ve got just this week, Game of Thrones is one for the books. A pop culture, that’s for sure, George R.R. Martin’s words brought to life took us to a world that we’ve never seen before.

I know it’s been just a few days since the whole thing ended. But we’re definitely feeling the sepanx hitting us right in our hearts every single time we come by any GOT-inspired memes. Oh, the gods of have been good, alright. So let’s take a step back and see what GOT moments made us cry all throughout these years. (Cue the waterworks, people!)

Danaery’s death

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6

One word. Brutal. Danaery’s might have been showing signs of spiraling down the drain with madness, sure. But we’ve all rooted for her all throughout her journey. From the meek Targaryen girl to being the strong Mother of Dragons and rightful Queen to the Iron Throne. All the obstacles, sacrifices and hardships she had encountered, endured and overcame, all turned to dust the moment she shared one last kiss with Jon.

I’m sure we all found ourselves holding our breaths as we see Dany’s body go limp with a dagger to her heart. With the Iron Throne within her reach, she dies and her last dragon cries. All her life’s work was gone with just a kiss.

Stark Siblings going their separate ways

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6

Admit it, you’ve definitely shed a tear or two on the last montage of the Stark siblings as they go their separate ways. It wasn’t the ending we’ve expected but it was relieving of some sorts. Sansa, the irritating teen we’ve hated becomes the strong and amazing Queen of the North. Arya ventures out the world with a crew at hand. Bran the Three-Eyed Raven becomes the King of all 6 kingdoms. And Jon, well, Jon goes beyond the Wall, together with Tormund, Ghost and the wildlings.

It might not be the ending we’ve all envisioned for them. But somehow knowing that they’ve accomplished a lot of things for the betterment of the realm is relieving. Somehow, no matter how things ended for them, maybe that’s where they truly belong, after all this time.

Battle of Winterfell

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3

The night is dark and full of terrors. The Battle of Winterfell has shown the terrors we’ve all been dreading. It only took one moment, just one second, to see some of the characters we love die helplessly against the army of the dead.

A lot of our favorite characters perished and that’s heartbreaking indeed. But one of the most remarkable deaths that had us were Lady Lyanna Mormont’s death. She might be just a little girl but she proved that she’s got the heart of every Northmen combined. (We don’t deserve her!)

Red Wedding

Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 9

Worst wedding of the century. It was indeed one of the memorable yet gut-wrenching moments of the show. Everyone loved Robb Stark. Almost everyone rooted for him, the original King of the North. And we’re happy to see him find the love of his life, Talisa of Volantis.

But as soon as Rains of Castamere filled the room, from the first blood drawn up until Grey Wind got shot, everything seems to be suspended. For Robb and Talisa to be killed on their wedding day is downright cruel. But what really had us was Catelyn Stark’s blood-curdling scream as she witnessed her son die within her reach.

Ned Stark’s beheading

Game of Thrones Season 1 Episode 9

One of the most frustrating deaths that we’ve ever seen, just after getting introduced to Ned Stark. We’re all like, “Yeah, I like this Ned Stark guy. He has a great potential to lead Westeros and something like that”. Then all of a sudden, his head rolls off in front of his daughters. Admit it, we’re all kind of pissed with Sansa during that time. But seeing her and Arya plead for mercy is just heartbreaking. We felt that. We all felt that.

Hold The Door

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 5

This one’s pretty messed up, that’s for sure. Sure, Hodor might not be that mentally capable as he is. But we’ve all empathized with him for being a loyal companion to Bran and the Stark family. And after knowing how his mental deterrent was caused by a Three-Eyed Raven time paradox surely caught us off guard. His brave act of sacrificing himself as White Walkers devoured him will be forever a heartbreaking moment in Game of Thrones’ history.

Ygritte dying in the arms of Jon

Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 9

The love story of Jon and Ygritte is one of the best love stories we’ve had. Despite being world’s apart (if you know what I mean), both of them has shown love goes beyond boundaries. However, with the responsibility and duty as one of the Night’s Watch, Jon has been torn with his decisions. It’s heartbreaking, indeed, as Ygritte died in the arms of Jon, bidding one last kiss goodbye. Duty is the death of love. Never forget.

Shireen’s burning at the stake

Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 9

Stannis might have been a great king. But sacrificing her innocent sweetheart of a daughter, Shireen, was over the top. It had everyone at the edge of their seats, seeing Shireen scream at the top of her lungs, asking for help from her mother who never loved her back. It definitely had you thinking how far the lords and ladies of Westeros would go just for the crown and the Iron Throne.

Dany’s vision of her life with Khal Drogo and her stillborn child

Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 10

During Dany’s stay at the House of the Undead, she witnesses a vision of her, Khal Drogo, and their stillborn child together at the afterlife. It was indeed a tempting treat, to live in that kind of fantasy, dream or illusion whatever you call it. After Dany and Khal Drogo found themselves really falling in love for each other, it was another power couple we all ship.

But no, they had to kill the Khal and all we can do is dream of this. Danaerys had a moment of hesitation, knowing that it was something she wanted. Living the life with her sun and stars. But she turned her back to this tempting dream to go back to the real world. All we’ve ever wanted is for someone to have a happy ending, damn it!

Rickon getting shot before the Battle of the Bastards

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 9

Ramsey is one sick bastard, alright. We were all given the false hope of having Rickon reunite with Jon. Despite the arrows flying towards him as he runs. But hey, what are the odds, right? But just when he’s within Jon’s reach? Ramsey gets the shot. We all had our hopes up only to be crushed at the very last moment. Way to go, GOT writers.

It has been a great eight years. And these Game of Thrones moments will forever be in our hearts. We’re not crying, you’re crying!
