The most anticipated Japanese animated film to hit the shores of the Philippines since ‘Your Name’, could possibly be heading to the 92nd Academy Awards! That’s right ‘Weathering With You’ was submitted for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category. Although the category used to be called Best Foreign Language Film. And it was only changed this year. So far ‘Weathering With You’ is the highest-grossing film in Japan this year. It first released last July 19 in Japan, and has earned over 10 billion yen! If you’re a true-blue Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki fan you would know that ‘Princess Mononoke’ was also submitted for the category of Best Foreign Language Film during the 70th Academy Awards in 1998. Although it failed to get a nomination. So maybe this is where ‘Weathering With You’ can achieve what ‘Princess Mononoke’ couldn’t. We’ve definitely got our fingers crossed!
