We got our first look behind the scenes… and now it’s the trailer! And we must tell you, it is looking paw-some!

First hitting the West Side in 1981, ‘Cats‘ is a critically acclaimed musical that we all have come to love. And it is so popular that if you have ever heard of theatre, you’ve probably heard of it. Formed with nothing but great imagination, ‘Cats’ revolves around the story of a tribe of cats and the night they make the “Jellicle choice” of choosing which cat ascends to the Heaviside layer into a new life.

And if you’re one of the people who loved the musical or maybe just love cats, we’re sure you’re gonna dig this trailer. Check it out!

Overall, the trailer revolves around Francesca Hayward’s character, Victoria, and there we see short appearances of the other characters. Taylor Swift looked especially sassy with that catnip dust and for a cat in high heels!

James Corden and the others are looking fancy too! But if we’re talking fancy, let’s look at Judi Dench’s character, Old Deuteronomy, who was looking as serene and graceful as she can get.

And of course, who could look past the great voice that lulled us through this trailer. Jennifer Hudson just offered us an out-of-this-world rendition of the musical’s most popular number, ‘Memory’.

Jennifer Hudson. Always with the emotions. With her playing Grizabella, the show is sure to be spectacular! Oh, and can we also talk about how cuddly Rebel Wilson looked with that little dance of hers?

We can only be too excited for the film to be able to complain about anything. But apparently, some people got the time. Some people call it “nightmare-inducing” how the characters looked in the trailer. “Why do they look half human and half cat?”,  “They have visible breasts!” or “The cats look too small!”

Well, first of all, go and watch the musical first, and then complain. If you’ve even watched the original musical and loved it, you’d understand that the characters looking human and looking cat-like is the exact feel of the musical. You can’t deviate from that, you can only make it better. This also answers why the cats have visible breasts. Why don’t we comment on the state of the art technology used to make the fur look realistic, or to make the fur look like a part of the actor’s body at all? This is not nightmare-inducing at all (unless you have a fear of cats). And what do people expect? Cute girls in cat ears headbands and a detachable tail? Or are you expecting them to entirely be just cats? If that’s what you’re going for, you’re watching the wrong trailer. This isn’t the Lion King remake. Another thing is that they are meant to look too small for the set. They’re cats!

With ‘Cats’ being one of the best musicals of all time, it can only be produced by the best. Aside from the world-class performers we already see on-screen, the movie is going to be directed by Tom Hooper, choreographed by the same award-winning man who choreographed Hamilton,  Andy Blankenbuehler and used a screenplay by Lee Hall.

This being said, we cannot wait ’till it’s Christmas! I’m sure that with this film, yours would be merrier, too! What did you think about the ‘Cats’ trailer?  Share us your thoughts on the comments down below! Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh.
