Fans are frowning upon the news that Liam Payne and Cheryl—her girlfriend of more than two years—have broken up. First met at X-Factor auditions, who would have thought that they’d be together 8 years later, but end up separating?
The two announced it on twitter at the same time, just an hour past July 1st. What a way to start the month! That explains why Liam wasn’t present on Cheryl’s 35th birthday.
We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.

Although not married, Liam and Cheryl have a son named Bear who was born March last year.
Paps are eyeing at Cheryl, with multiple hate articles on how she’s married twice before, and had a baby out of wedlock, making the split an “out” for Liam. Plus, she’s 10 years older than him—but why’s it such a big deal when it’s a girl older than the guy?
Some sources also say that Cheryl’s mom has something to do with the split, and later on confirmed that this is nothing but a hoax:

Knowing how chaotic celebrity breakups can be, fellow 1D star Harry Styles also posted a “cryptic post” following the split.

There are multiple other celebrity breakups this year, none of which was expected, starting with I’m Way Too Good At Goodbyes singer.
Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn
October 2017 was the start of the so-sweet love, following months of public display of affection—Sam even told us that we might *finally* expect happy songs from him. But lo and behold, the relationship ended as soon as the others. Both deleted Instagram pictures from the past, leaving no traces except for this one from 13 Reasons Why star:
A few of my favorite things from 2017, as shit as some of it was can’t help but see all the good! Hoping 2018 is full of ups and downs as well… saw Call Me By Your Name today and couldn’t help myself… “In your place, if there is pain, nurse it, and if there is a flame, don’t snuff it out, don’t be brutal with it. Withdrawal can be a terrible thing when it keeps us awake at night, and watching others forget us sooner than we’d want to be forgotten is no better. We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of 30 and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything—what a waste!”
Ariana Grande and Mac Miller
Ariana Grande may be happily engaged now, but let’s not forget her breakup with Mac Miller, after two years of happily dating. Their relationship—which started with a tweet btw—was full of music collabs and nothing else but support for each other.
I don’t know about you, but probably a lot of us was thinking they were going to make it. Can’t blame the peeps back there who weren’t happy when Ariana suddenly got engaged to Pete Davinson, but as long as they’re happy, who are we to judge?
Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham
More than five years of dating, you guys, five happy years turned to dust. Earlier this year, there were only rumors, but it was confirmed when Lena finally broke the silence.
She wrote on Vogue:
“We sat in our shared kitchen of nearly four years and quietly faced each other, acknowledging what nobody wanted to say. That obsessive connection had turned to blind devotion, and the blinders were coming off to reveal that we had evolved separately (the least shocking reason of all and perhaps the most common). That anger wasn’t sexy or sustainable. That our hearts were still broken from trying so hard to fix it but no longer uncertain about whether or not we could. The finality nearly killed me.”
Taylor Swift even wrote a song about them titled You Are in Love from her 1989 album—we’re as devastated as you are, Tay.
I think all we can get from here is that these celebs are as normal as we can get—relationships come and go, and not everyone has to meddle in when they’re deciding on their own. Relationships don’t always work out, period.
