That Netflix show “where Jane Austen meets Gossip Girl” is going to be back for another season!
Bridgerton, the latest addition to the long line of Shondaland goodness, has been the talk of the town since it premiered on Netflix on December 25. A TV adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel, it has been capturing audiences’ hearts for its brilliant take on period drama. On Wednesday, the streaming giant took to Instagram and spread the most exciting news: that the Regency era-set series has been greenlit for another “social season.”

The short-but-sweet teaser is a compilation of shots from the first season, which ends with a message that season 2 is coming. And then on the same day, the latest issue of Lady Whistledown’s society papers was delivered to our virtual mailboxes, confirming the news via Whistledown herself.
“Dear Readers, the ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honor [sic] to impart to you: Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season. I do hope you have stored a bottle of Ratafia for this most delightful occasion.” The mysterious show narrator (voiced by Julie Andrews), who has yet to reveal her complete identity, also reveals in the letter that the original cast of the hit series will be back in production in the spring of 2021.
So what can we expect?
Just as the first season was adapted from the first book of the Bridgerton series, the next season will reportedly follow the same pattern. As the show creator Chris Van Dusen told Entertainment Weekly, “the show was always set out to be primarily one book per season.”
And if that’s the case, the second Bridgerton book titled The Viscount Who Loved Me puts the focus on Daphne Bridgerton’s eldest brother, Anthony Viscount Bridgerton, so it’s most likely we’ll be following a new protagonist. Well, whatever Netflix has in store for us, we just hope they hurry up.
A proper release date for Bridgerton Season 2 is yet to be announced.
