Not all famous celebrities we see on the screen have had an original song written for them.
Well, there’s Catriona, an electronic pop track with catchy tunes written by Matthaios, who sources his self-worth from our Miss Universe 2018’s heavenly smile. There’s also IVANA by SOULSTICE, dedicated to none other than Ivana Alawi. Aside from these, can you give us other songs inspired by celebrities?
On March 7, 2020, an artist who goes by the name of Jeck released a song called ANGHEL. It’s a simple rap song with a simple tune and songwriting. Quality-wise, it isn’t as grand as the ones we’ve mentioned above.
But unlike the previous two, ANGHEL is not a song that talks about a woman’s smile, or her face, or her body. It doesn’t talk about being in love with how she looks. It simply tackles the writer’s appreciation for Angel Locsin’s big heart that has touched and helped a myriad of people who are in need.
Despite the track’s apparent simplicity and lack of fancy edits and effects, it doesn’t take a genius to feel the songwriter’s sincerity. The lyrics video posted on youtube even contains this caption.
We have seen her play the role of a superhero, a wolf, a half-human, half-birdman. She has been cast as the legal wife, the mistress, the most adventurous sister that makes Bobbie feel insecure. But when she is not acting, who is this Angel?
Angelica Locsin Colmenares, a.k.a. Angel Locsin, was born on April 23, 1985 in Santa Maria, Bulacan. She started out her career by appearing in local films and telenovelas, but shortly afterwards, she got her own limelight. In 2004, she played as Alwina in Mulawin, and was later cast as Darna in GMA’s TV adaptation of a phenomenal comic book by Mars Ravelo.
During the early parts of her career as a film actress, she starred in horror movies like Sigaw and Txt, and romatic films Let The Love Begin and I Will Always Love You with Richard Gutierez.
Angel continues to soar high
For her critically acclaimed performance in the drama film In The Name of Love with Aga Muhlach, she earned several awards including Star Award for Movies for Movie Actress of the Year, the Gawad Pasado Award for Pinakapasadong Aktres, and a nomination for best actress at the FAMAS awards.
Under Star Cinema, she starred in Unofficially Yours (with John Lloyd Cruz) and in the drama film One More Try with Dingdong Dantes and Angelica Panganiban. She was one of the iconic Salazar siblings in Four Sisters and A Wedding, in which she played as Alex, the adventurous sister. Her latest major role was in The General’s Daughter, an action-drama series on ABS-CBN. She played the character of Sr. Lt. Rhian Bonifacio.
An angel by the heart
Angel Locsin is known for being a philanthropist. Over the years, she has been seen around helping someone or a group of people, in little and big ways. She is an active member of Red Cross. In the wake of Typhoon Yolanda, which left thousands of people dead and over four million people homeless, Angel was among the volunteers who flew to Visayas to help distribute goods among the victims. During the Sagip Kapamilya auctions in 2014, Angel Locsin donated her 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, earning bids as big as P1.8 million. Amidst the chaotic war taking place between the Marawi troops and terrorists, Angel came to help giving out food and school supplies to the trapped residents in the city.
In Forbes’ Asia’s 2019 Heroes of Philanthropy, Angel Locsin was recognized to be among the 30 most generous philanthropists and “catalysts for change” in Asia. According to Forbes, Angel Locsin has donated about ₱15 million over the last ten years that went to different causes like scholarships, helping typhoon victims, aid to indigenous people and fights against violence for women and children.
I never thought @ForbesAsia would ever mention my name, lol. Thank you! Filipinos have always been known for “bayanihan”. I’m nowhere near from being a billionaire, but I try my best to do my part in my own little way. I hope this would inspire other people to help as well. https://t.co/e6tnCcSc1k

JECK IS ALL OF US
Behind the camera, behind the makeup and the costume, there’s is a strong, powerful woman who has sworn to do her part in promoting good. Angel Locsin proves that she is not only an angel by name. She’s a phenomenal, God-given icon made to serve others either by entertaining us with her superb acting or by sharing love and kindness among people.
“You don’t need to wear a costume to be a superhero,” Angel once said, talking about her role Darna in 2005.
Indeed, Ms. Angel. Indeed.
