The Spice Girls are an English pop girl group formed in 1994. The group comprises of Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B (“Scary Spice”), Melanie Chisholm, Mel C (“Sporty Spice”), Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”), Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”) and Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”).
The Spice Girls were one of the pioneers of a girl group during their time, one of their singles actually hit number one in 37 countries. Their debut album Spice sold more than 23 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by a female group in history.
Measures of their success include international record sales, vast merchandising enterprises, iconic symbolism such as “girl power”, an actual film, Spice World (1997), and two reunion tours, 2007–2008 and 2019
Salt-N-Pepa, an American hip-hop girl group. Members included Salt (Cheryl James), Pepa (Sandra Denton), and DJ Spinderella (Deidra Roper). I am betting most of you will not know them. But during the ’90s, a lot of their singles hit number one is a lot of countries, some of which is “Push It”. One of their highest-selling albums is their 4th album Very Necessary which sold over 7 million copies worldwide, making them the highest-selling album by a female rap act in history.
Their success in rap and hip-hop culture has earned them the honorific title “The First Ladies of Rap and Hip Hop”
R.E.M. is one of the most iconic American rock band from Athens, Georgia, formed in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe.
They are one of the very first alternative rock bands there were. R.E.M. was noted for Buck’s ringing, arpeggiated guitar style; Stipe’s distinctive vocal quality, unique stage presence, and obscure lyrics; Mills’s melodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry’s tight, economical drumming style. They were considered to be the pioneer alternative rock acts.
U2 is an Irish rock band from Dublin, the group consists of Bono (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), the Edge (lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion).
Initially focused on post-punk, U2’s musical style has evolved throughout their career, subsequent works such as their first UK number-one album, War (1983), and the singles “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” helped establish U2’s reputation as a political and socially conscious musician. Their fifth album, The Joshua Tree made them international superstars and was considered their greatest success.
