The OPM band is gaining some recognition all the way from South Korea!

Indie-folk pop band Ben&Ben has recently topped the realtime search engine of Korea’s biggest streaming site, Melon. The band’s hit single ‘Leaves’ also rose at number 2 along with the words ‘leaf’, ‘ben and ben’, ‘ben&ben leaves’ occupying the 3rd, 6th, and 7th places respectively.

A Twitter account dedicated to posting chart rankings of K-pop stars took notice of this event. Veering away from their usual updates on YG Entertainment artists, the Twitter user expressed bewilderment on the odd occurrence.

What prompted Koreans to look up the 9-piece band is assumed to be from the suggestions of K-pop idols. NCT’s Mark and DAY6’s Young K gave a special mention to Ben&Ben on their personal V Lives after many Filipino fans recommended they give the band a listen.

Ecstatic on this crazy milestone, the award-winning OPM act took to social media to express their awe and appreciation. The band also retweeted snippets of the Mark and Young K’s shoutouts, thanking them for listening to their music.

Ben&Ben is continuously making waves in the OPM landscape with their recent release ‘Nakikinig ka ba sa Akin ‘ (Read more of it here: Ben&Ben Drops MV For “Nakikinig Ka Ba Sa Akin”).

With their songs gaining recognition outside the country, fans are happy to see a slight shift in dynamics. K-pop has always made its way in the Filipino charts so it’s a welcome change to see our very own reach theirs. We never know, Ben&Ben might even rank not only in their search chart but on Melon’s Top 100.
