Raymund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala return with a holiday special of Coke Studio PH! All original seven artist pairings came back to work on renditions of popular Christmas songs as part of the celebrations. Prior to showing us their works, we got a glimpse of how much Filipinos really value the holidays; big and delicious meal portions meet an even bigger horde of family and friends sharing those meals, the beautiful decor, and the three-month celebration of the holidays. If you ask Filipinos for their favorite season, they would answer Christmas.

Abra X Gracenote

Rapper Abra and alternative band Gracenote are up first with “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” They admit to having difficulties at first but quickly overcome it as they continue, realizing that the song is quite easy to manipulate in terms of arrangement. In the final track, Gracenote covers the chorus while Abra drops his bars during the verses.

Sandwich X BP Valenzuela

For a more peaceful option, Sandwich and BP Valenzuela chose “O Holy Night.” They decided to keep the song calm to avoid overkill, which was the smart decision. BP enters with an electric guitar and vocals, proceeded by Sandwich’s signature rock sound and harmonization from Raymund.

Ebe Dancel X Autotelic

Ex-Sugarfree vocalist Ebe Dancel and Autotelic put their own spin to “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” They replaced the heavy chorale background with a pair of bongo drums and a tambourine, giving the song a livelier and upbeat vibe. Props to the acoustic guitar riff during the outro—a very good touch!

Moonster88 X Jensen and the Flips, Gab & John X The Ransom Collective, Noel Cabangon X Curtismith, and Franco X Reese Lansangan are up for next week’s episode of Coke Studio PH. Catch it live on Saturday night on TV5 or the livestream on YouTube. Happy holidays, everybody!
