It’s about time for another Crash adventures!

Activision has officially revealed Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, the newest addition to the storied franchise, and the true sequel to 1998’s Crash Bandicoot: Warped. The official announcement came after multiple leaks and rumors about a new Crash Bandicoot game being in the works.

To give you a bit of history, Crash Bandicoot was published by Sony Computer Entertainment– now Sony Interactive Entertainment– for the original Playstation way back 1996. Created by Andy Gavin and Jason during their time at Naughty Dog– the studio who would, later on, give birth to widely acclaimed franchises like The Last of Us and Uncharted, the series started out as a trilogy of platforming adventures of Crash, a genetically enhanced bandicoot created as a failed experiment by the main antagonist, Doctor Neo Cortex.

After the third installment Crash Bandicoot: Warped in 1998, the series suffered an identity crisis, as more games followed up coming from different developers, who failed to capture the essence of the original trilogy. That is why, despite the fact that It’s About Time technically sits at the end of a long list of Crash titles, it’s still considered as the 4th Crash game arriving 20 years after its predecessor.

What can we expect?

The same with its prequels, Crash Bandicoot: It’s About Time is gonna be another platforming game. The trailer tells that we’re set for another non-stop jumping over enemies and across bottomless pits while avoiding deadly obstacles. And yep, you will still be collecting those Wumpa Fruits.

Story-wise, it picks up from where it left decades back when Crash defeated Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy, and Uka Uka and left them stranded on a distant planet. Apparently, the trio has escaped and now seeks to take revenge.

Also, the trailer promises that it’s a new game with “new worlds” and “new powers”. The gameplay will involve elements of time travel, allowing players to bend the laws of physics for survival.

Crash Bandicoot: It’s About Time is due for a worldwide release on October 2nd this year for PlayStation4 and XBox. Watch the official trailer below:
