WARNING: Spoilers alert!
A new K-drama series is making the ~wave~ and it’s none other than ‘Crash Landing On You’! In case you missed it, it follows the story of a couple brought together by unforeseen circumstances. And it’s seriously giving us major modern Romeo and Juliet feels!
Of course, our love for the series doesn’t stop there. We also had to do some digging to find out fun facts and we’re so happy to share them with you! Let’s find out, shall we?
If you happen to have watched the award-winning film, ‘Parasite’, you might be already familiar with Seo Dan’s eomma (Jang Hye Jin) and uncle (Park Myung Hoon) after seeing them in CLOY. Yes, this quirky tandem was a cast in the dark comedy with Jang Hye Jin being the Kim family matriarch who became the Park’s new housekeeper.
Meanwhile, Park Myung Hoon played the basement-dwelling husband of the Park family’s old housekeeper.
It wasn’t shot in North Korea
For those who are unaware, North Korea is one of the most secluded places in the world. Scenes in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was actually shot in Jeju Island while the episode wherein Se-ri and Jeong Hyeok took the train to get to Pyongyang was in Mongolia. Other parts of the series were also filmed in Switzerland. Thank God for CLOY‘s production team for coming up with a solution that’s close to the real thing!
Seo Dan’s not so accurate fashion choices
One North Korean defector named Kang Nara took it on Youtube to share what’s accurate and not on the series. She said ‘Crash Landing On You’ got 60% correct of depicting North Korea and its culture, however, when it came to Seo Dan’s fashion style it was nowhere near what North Korean women would actually wear. She pointed out one particular scene wherein Dan was wearing a trench coat and a pair of knee-high boots, which is a big no-no!
“To be honest, not a lot of people wear trench coats in North Korea… Oh, and those boots. Women must wear their boots under their pants to make them look like regular shoes. If you wear your walenkki to show like that, you’ll be pulled aside for inspection. So that was a big miss.”
‘Secretly Greatly’ & ‘CLOY‘ same universe
Considering Kim Soo-hyun’s cameo was cut short, you might not have recognized him as his previous cameo character in ‘Secretly Greatly’, Dong-gu, a North Korean spy who pretends to be a “village idiot”. Now, we see again his iconic green tracksuit and messy hair in the 10th episode of CLOY. This, by far, is the biggest crossover moment of K-dramas in history!
