Everybody knows the classic Christmas song, ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’. But John Legend and Kelly Clarkson’s version is nothing like the original! At least, context-wise anyway. It still sounds like the classic we know and love. But it now tells a better and funnier story.

Consent is key!

The original version of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ caught backlash in recent years. When people started to notice the subliminal story it tells—a story that feels a lot like date rape. So before you start to defend this classic Christmas song, let me enlighten you.

Obviously we know that this song is particularly flirty. As the man convinces the woman to stay over, because duh, it’s cold outside. But don’t you find this particular line odd?

Say, what’s in this drink?

Yep, I’m sure by now you’re listening to this song in a whole new light. Especially since 2017, there have been a slew of date rape incidents. And the means would often include the perpetrator spiking their victim’s drinks.

So obviously, this kind of change in a popular Christmas song is very welcome in our book. As it highlights consent above all else.

Overall, we absolutely adore this new version of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ by John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. It now tells a more modern, hilarious, and appropriate story. And guys, if People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive can understand consent, why can’t you?
