ASUL: The Taga-Alog 2019 Grand Concert for Pasig River

November 5, 2019 Shaina Dulay

Let’s move and groove for Pasig River, friends! Amazing bands plus a good cause is waiting for you!

Do you remember the song ‘Anak ng Pasig’ by Geneva Cruz? Do you remember the iconic, nostalgic lyrics “Anak ng Pasig naman kayo! Kalat doon, kalat dito”? Because that song came out in 1992. And 26 years later, those lyrics could still be applied to one aspect of Pasig – the River.

Undeniably, the Pasig River has been neglected by the people around it. However, a lot of efforts have also been made to rehabilitate the once beautiful waters. In fact, on November 9 a concert will be held by Taga-Alog, a joint project by the PETA and the NCCA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts).

What exactly is the purpose of this?

ASUL, the Grand Concert

This upcoming concert signifies the culmination of Taga-Alog’s campaign and efforts in promoting Pasig River as a space for cultural identity and collective memory. Moreover, it also acts as a message for everyone to move towards being a “taga-alog” or shaker—as ambassadors or advocates for the river’s rehabilitation.

The concert’s name, ASUL, is simply the dream for Pasig River. After all, everybody wants the river to be clear as to reflect the beautiful blue skies again. Can you imagine how beautiful it will be?
