What is it about real-life-drama that captures the attention of Filipinos? But honestly, who really cares about the Barretto feud?

In today’s tech-savvy scene, it’s no surprise that Filipino’s spend a good portion of their time on social media. And although intangible, how we choose to spend that time on social media matters. And so when my feed was bombarded with endless clickbait articles about the Barretto feud, the feeling of my time being wasted was so prevalent I just had to put down my phone. Their family’s dirty laundry shouldn’t be made everyone else’s business. But in spite of this whole mess regarding the Barretto feud, we can make them a prime example of what you SHOULDN’T share on social media.

They’re not fighting over anything significant.

Regardless of how long the Barretto feud has been going on, there’s really only one thing you need to know. They’re not fighting over anything of significance! It’s all she-said this and she-said that drama and pettiness. IMHO, they want to be the “Kardashian’s” of the Philippines. And I am so over it! There are so many other things that Filipinos could be talking about, and yet people choose to consume this nonsense that doesn’t affect anything of importance.

They are a national embarrassment.

I don’t know any other group of people, celebrities, or families that would have a slap-fest in front of the president of the country! Regardless of anyone’s opinion on what kind of president Rodrigo Duterte is, he is still the leader of this country. And their crass and tactless display represents everything wrong with tabloid level show business. IMO, family problems should be kept within the family. Whether you’re a celebrity or not.

Keep your dirty laundry to yourself.

Even if it isn’t your own, the mere fact that you’re exposing someone else’s dirty laundry says more about you than it does them. Yes, you have the freedom to express your troubles or grievances on social media. But do you really want to be feasted on like the Barretto family? And if you’re hoping to mend whatever rift you have with someone, posting about it with full details on social media won’t help.

So let’s spend our time on social media wisely, guys. It’s okay to consume, nonsense on the internet. Hello, memes are a godsend. But also remember that time is the most precious commodity. And that you can choose what to share on social media. Not everyone has to know your business. And for all you know, they’re just following you for the gossip anyway.

Are you sick of all the Barretto feud posts on social media like we are? Are you at fault for oversharing dirty laundry too? Or do you actually love seeing the drama? We’d love to hear what you think! So share with us your thoughts in the comments down below! Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh.
