Fresh grad tips to survive at work

Fresh Grad 101: Here’s how you can survive at work

October 8, 2019 Divine Sanchez

We all know the struggle of being a fresh grad at work but don’t worry, here are some survival tips for y’all!

Being a fresh grad is one of the best experiences one can have. We’re finally in the halfway of our lives wherein we’re both at the end of the line after finishing college and a new beginning to adulthood. Adulthood meaning having a job. And there are many perks of being a fresh grad at work, having all these new and fresh ideas.

But naturally, there are some also down points to it. Making that transition from student to employee is always not that easy. So we heard you, people! If you’re looking for some tips on how to survive at work, we got you!

Let’s get down to business, shall we?

#1 Socialize

Our first line of business is learning how to socialize. Yes, it’s hard considering you’re all new to this. But you need to put yourself out there since it’s all part of work. Trust us. Having people you know and being part of the circle in your designated industry makes it easier to ask for help in projects, events, etc. in the future.

And doesn’t only mean outside of your workplace, you also need to develop a harmonious relationship with your co-workers because it reflects on the output you make as a whole and you’re overall well-being.

#2 Contribute

Just because you’re fresh grad doesn’t mean your ideas aren’t on par with those who already have experience. Don’t be afraid to speak up. There’s a reason why your employers hired you in the first place. Break out of your shell.

#3 Sort out your goals

Since you’re a fresh grad your goal is probably out of the sorts at the moment. But remember why you started doing things. Lay out your goals and with time and effort, sure enough, you’ll be able to achieve them. Believe in yourself.

#4 Be polite but don’t be a doormat

Here’s something fresh grads often forget. Yes, employers hired you because of the potential they see in you but don’t let that get into your head. You need to learn to show respect and be humble. BUT it doesn’t also mean you should everyone treat you like an underdog. Let your work speak for you and everything else will follow.

#5 Accept criticisms

This goes without saying. You’ll inevitably get to face challenges in life but these are things that will help you grow in the future. When you fall, it doesn’t automatically mean that you’re a failure, rather, you should know for yourself that you’re in the learning process. So don’t be afraid to take in some of that good ‘ol criticism.
