Jennylyn Mercado will star in the ‘Descendants of the Sun’ remake!

We have our new Dr. Kang for the ‘Descendants of the Sun’ remake and it’s none other than Jennylyn Mercado! Read on for more details!

2019 has been a year full of movie remakes. And the Philippines is not one to be left out ‘cuz we’re having our own remake of ‘Descendants of the Sun’! GMA 7, who will be spearheading the project, recently announced the leading lady of the upcoming Tagalog series. And it will be none other than Jennylyn Mercado!

Yesterday, GMA 7 took it to its television news program, 24 Oras, to reveal the next Dr. Kang which is Jennylyn Mercado. In the Filipino remake, Jennylyn’s character is named Dr. Maxine dela Cruz.

Together with Jennylyn will be Ding Dong Dantes who will be playing Captain Lucas, the love interest of Dr. Maxine.

Jennlyn, shared on her Instagram how grateful she is for the role but at the same time, feels pressured in portraying this character.

In case you didn’t know, ‘Descendants of the Sun’ is an original Korean drama aired in 2016. It was an instant smash because of Song Joong‑ki (Captain Yoo Shi Jin) and Song Hye-Kyo’s (Doctor Kang Mo Yeon) down-to-earth acting and the series’ unique storyline.

Now, GMA 7 is giving life to a Filipino rendition of this highly acclaimed drama full of star-studded casts including Jennylyn Mercado, Ding Dong Dantes, Paul Salas, Jasmin Curtis-Smith, and Rocco Nacino.
