Dance your way to a dream job in Disneyland!

Have you ever wondered what’s it like to work in the happiest place on Earth? Read how this inspiring Pinoy danced his way to getting his dream job at Disneyland!
This is the inspirational story of a dancer who dared to dream. Robi Renz Cruz, or as his friends like to call him, Robi. He’s just like you and me, the only difference is he has his dream job working in the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland! While we’re stuck in offices all day he gets to pursue his passion and dance as, and with, all our favourite Disney characters! He’s a 25-year-old professional dancer. And a proud graduate, with honours, from Far Eastern University-Manila. After he graduated he went straight to Hong Kong to work as a Dance Teacher and after two years there he then tried to apply for a job in Hong Kong Disneyland as a Parade Dancer. And that is when the magic happened.
This is why you should never lose hope!
Sometimes life just gets in the way, and we lose sight of our dreams. But Robi’s story proves otherwise. That you should never lose hope. Because when we asked him about how he got the job as a Parade Dancer in Hong Kong Disneyland, he told us:
It started in 2017 when I decided to resign from my previous work. I was with the company since 2015 and then I thought Disneyland is a fun place to work. So I tried for the auditions in Hong Kong, and usually, after auditions you can already get a call from them in maybe one or two weeks after your audition date. But in my case, it lasted for three months. I didn’t expect anymore because I thought if they didn’t call after two weeks, they wouldn’t call you at all. But then after three months, I received a random call. And that’s how it all started.
That is indeed how it all starts. With a single dream, and the courage to try. And I guess it really is true that when you do what you love…
You’ll never work a day in your life.
Although that saying may not always be true for everyone because work is work. But we believe that finding happiness and falling in love with what you do is necessary to be successful in whatever field you choose to pursue. Because Robi didn’t think much of the job at first as well, saying:
All I knew was I was going to be a dancer, but I didn’t expect that it was going to be this FUN!!!
But as he went on his new career he has found a humbleness in what he does.
Words can’t explain how happy I am to always perform in front of people, and just see the smile on their faces. I feel like I have this “magic” in me every day that I’m able to share with thousands and millions of people. It’s insane! My work is physically and mentally tiring but whenever I see kids or even adults smiling, it just removes all the tiredness and exhausting feeling. It’s surreal. I am grateful and blessed to be able to share happiness in an international stage or should I say to the whole world.
Always remember to take the good with the bad.
Of course, it’s not all fun and games. A job is still a job. And here you can see one of the many struggles a Parade Dancer faces. Even during sudden rainfall, one must remain in character. To “keep the magic alive”, as they say, for the visitors of Hongkong Disneyland. We applaud your dedication to your craft, Robi! You make dancers and Pinoys alike very proud!
So in the timeless words of Walt Disney himself, “all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” And in true Disney fashion, when he asked him what the best part was of having his dream job at Disneyland, he says: “Well, I’m able to dance with my boss: Mickey Mouse!”
