GAMES: Teams to watch out for at The International 2019
August 13, 2019 Victoria Luz
In just a few hours, The International 2019 Group Stage will be starting. But who among the TI9 hopefuls are the teams to watch out for?
The whole 2018 – 2019 DPC season has been definitely a roller coaster ride. While it has been good for some, other derailed from their own footing. However, despite everything that happened for the past 12 months, we’ve seen a wave of change. They’ve given their all towards achieving one goal: taking the center stage at The International 2019.
We’ve seen the rise and fall of both great powerhouses and underdogs. This coming TI9, we’re seeing almost the same faces that we saw in the past year. We have previous TI champions, Major champions, underdogs and up-and-coming challengers. But among them, there are teams that are worth mentioning and watching out for.
The Defending Champions
Of course, being the previous TI champions, OG is one to watch out for. Since their cinderella run in The International 2018, some still doubt their skills, calling it a stroke of luck. Against the odds, you might say. Especially with the sudden drop in their performance during the season. But despite that, everyone’s looking forward if they can defend the Aegis and show what they’re truly made of.
Aside from OG, everyone’s looking forward to seeing the possibility of a two-peat champion from the pool of previous TI winners in their midst. That includes previous TI champions like Na’Vi, Alliance, Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses and Newbee (despite acquiring Forward Gaming’s previous players).

Now that we’ve mentioned powerhouses, the crowd-favorites like Team Secret and Virtus.pro are still at it. Being the top two contenders to win The International 2019, they aren’t just some Tier 1 team to overlook. For one, Team Secret has been winning most of the Majors this season, followed by the ever competitive Virtus.pro. With the experience that they’ve garnered for the past months, you can say that they have the edge to take it to the next level this time.
Though some are saying that they are only Major champions, who knows this time right? They might be able to turn the tides to their favor.
Kuku believes that it is not just the 3 cores that carries the team throughout the game. The supports can also create a huge impact in a match with their game changing plays.

And of course, the dark horses and underdogs of this The International lineup, TNC.Predator, Chaos Esports Club, Mineski and Keen Gaming. Sure, these teams have shown tremendous improvements over the past months. But when mixed up with the big boys, they still have a long shot to go.
However, they are certainly promising as they are. Especially, SEA’s pride, TNC, and Mineski. Though Mineski had some issues within their teams and performances, they are still strong as ever. And as for TNC, the rising phoenix has surprised us countless times to prove that they can do it.
On the other hand, with the recent acquisition of MATUMBAMAN by Chaos Esports Club, they’ve displayed far more progress, especially with qualifying for the tournament. And as for Keen Gaming, these veterans are off to show that they haven’t been left behind by the meta.
And since The International 2019 is just a few hours away, they’ll be taking the flight to show that they’re the best. Who are you looking forward to The International 2019? Share us your thoughts on the comments down below. Or hit us up on our Facebook or Twitter @UDoUPh.
