ENCORE FEATURE: Weekly Top 5 OPM Artists

July 3, 2019 Kae Luna

Bored out of your mind? There’s nothing better than music to help you get by and bands that would make you rock your hearts out. And don’t worry, we got you covered with our weekly top OPM artists!

There are days when everything you do feels repetitive like you’re trapped in a routine. Tell you what, we feel you! And good, new music always helps us get through the week. If that’s what you’re looking for, you came to the right place. We got you! Here are this week’s top 5 OPM artists!

1. MilesExperience

If you’re up for music that will have you crash the repeat button, try listening to MilesExperience! The five-piece creates music that’s a breath of fresh air from the usual pop tunes that we hear every single day. What’s amazing about the band is that every member has his own oddity and quirk, and they have learned to embrace it and use it in advantage to their music.

Our favorite at the moment, of course, is their latest single called ‘Kahit Sandali Lang‘. Hands down, this song will make you feel the longing. Some say they even missed their exes when listening to this! You can listen to ‘Kahit Sandali Lang’ and MilesExperience’s other overly amazing songs on Spotify!

2. FourPlay

FourPlay, on the other hand, takes on a youthful and mischievous nature when it comes to their songs. Whether it’s a hurtful “hugot” song or one that would make you fall in love, each song effectively shows the members’ personalities. FourPlay also likes to experiment with different musical techniques so there is a new flavor to every song.

If you ask me, their song ‘Sinta’ is a joy to listen to when they perform it live! It’s always a heart-warming promise when you hear the crowd sing “Ako’y magbabalik, sinta.” Or, if you’re up for mischief, listen to ‘One Night Stand‘. It talks about the hazy feeling of confusion. Do you love the person or are you just drunk? You can find this song on Spotify along with their other singles!

3. MNTKLYA

MNTKLYA prefers not to confine themselves into a specific genre. Because of this, they are able to create music that is perfect for every weather! For the sake of describing it, their sound is reminiscent of the 2000s’ alternative punk/rock. Upbeat or mellow, they have it!

If you’re up for another afternoon of crying your eyes out, check out their single ‘Buhos‘. Perfect for a lazy rainy day. ‘Buhos’ takes rain and compares it to raging feelings of heartbreak. It implies that like rain, feelings will fade and you’d be able to move on. Check out their Spotify!

4. St. Wolf

St. Wolf’s music is a banger. That’s all we can say! You just can’t help but nod your head to the beat when you listen to these guys. Fun fact, the band’s name comes from the fact that there will always be a good and bad side to a person. The good (saint) and the bad (wolf) creates the balance that translates through their music.

My personal favorite is their single called ‘Jealousy‘! “I hate this jealousy,” the song says, and we can all relate. This and other songs are available on their Spotify, so check it out!

5. LaLuna

Last up but definitely not the least, LaLuna! Talk about some drinking sesh music. If you don’t drink, their music would be just right to keep your company on lonely nights. Lately, they have been writing songs about political and relevant social issues, because as artists, they believe they have a voice which they intend to use for awareness!

My favorite LaLuna song is ‘Hawak Bitaw‘! We all have a liking to songs that we know would break our hearts and we love them. We’re masochists like that, but if you really want to talk about pain, check this song out! It talks about staying with someone knowing that someday, the relationship would still end. Definitely check out their Spotify. You won’t regret it!

We hope this list satisfies your music cravings for this week! It’s always good to support our local artists, so definitely check out their music!
