After coming into terms with Drodo Studio, Valve decides to create a standalone version of Dota Auto Chess!
In just a few months, Dota Auto Chess, a custom game within Dota 2, became an instant hit. Created by Drodo Studio, Auto Chess toppled the users of Valve’s Artifact in no time. And because of this, Valve has been on the run to acquire Dota Auto Chess.
As soon as Drodo Studio brought Auto Chess to mobile phones, it garnered a significant number of users. With this kind of progression happening, Valve took it upon themselves to meet and discuss with Drodo Studio a possible collaboration. But it seemed like Valve did not acquire the game as they announced that they would be building their stand-alone version of Dota Auto Chess.
As for us, with Drodo’s blessing, a group of people here at Valve are currently working on a standalone Dota version. We’ll share more information about this soon.
According to Valve’s statement, they come an agreement with Drodo to go separate ways. They would still support each other with their endeavors with the DAC mod. Valve will be making their own version of Dota Auto Chess. They will still be helping Drodo migrate the accounts of existing DAC players to their new game.
Drodo Studio would still continue the development of their non-Dota mobile version of Auto Chess. They will still be updating the DAC mods and design new modes for their stand-alone version.
There is no news yet on when will Valve release their own version. But there’s a huge possibility that it might be announced after The International 2019. And with the great reception it got from players, it might get it’s own esports title too!
