After the 2016 box-office record-breaking film ‘Your Name’, director Makoto Shinkai brings a new romance. And this time, he brings another supernatural-spun romance ‘Weathering With You’.
After the success of ‘Your Name’ (Kimi no Na Wa), Japanese director Makoto Shinkai shows off his newest masterpiece, ‘Weathering With You’. And just recently, they’ve released the official promotional video or trailer for the next best film in his prime.
The trailer of ‘Weathering With You’ runs for about just one minute. But despite the short time, it shows an enchanting summer story. And it’s perfect, to be honest. This new summer romance follows the story of Hodaka Morishima, a teenage boy who leaves his town for Tokyo. However, he ends up broke after moving to the city. In hopes to survive the bustling city life, he ends up finding a job as a writer for a shady occult magazine. After getting the job, he notices that it begins to be rainy day after day. One day, Hodaka meets a young girl named Hina Amano. Hodaka soon discovers that Hina possesses supernatural power, the power to control the weather at will.
According to reports, Shinkai focused on the weather this time because it’s a familiar topic to everyone, anywhere. And he aims to create something real from a fictional story that will move people’s hearts. And just like with ‘Your Name’, his new film ‘Weather With You’ will bring mixed emotions to everyone; tears, laughter, and smiles—so thrilling, imaginative but real.
Apparently, due to the success of ‘Your Name’ two years ago and dethroning Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, the expectations are quite high for ‘Weathering with You’. Weathering With You premieres in Japan on July 19, 2019.
