GAMES: Lotac disbands mid-season
March 18, 2019 Victoria Luz
Despite the great headstart for the newly established team, Lotac bids goodbye after losing in the recent StarLadder ImbaTV Minor qualifiers.
A few days after losing to BOOM ID in the StarLadder ImbaTV Minor qualifiers, Lotac announces the team’s disbandment. It was announced over their Facebook post that the team that Lotac’s Dota 2 team will be released as of March 15, 2019.
Lotac’s stack is composed of former experienced players from different SEA teams like TNC and Fnatic. Former TNC player, Marc Polo “Raven” Fausto, former Fnatic offlaner Khoo “Ohaiyo” Chong Xin and Ng “YamateH” Wei Poong founded Lotac back in September 2018. Aside from them, they also have Rolen Andrei “Skemberlu” Ong and Kee Chyuan “ChYuan” Ng in their roster. Without further ado, the team started joining tournaments, both DPC and non-DPC sanctioned tournaments. The biggest tournament they’ve participated was the Kuala Lumpur Major qualifiers, the very first DPC tournament for this season.
However, despite the team’s commendable performance during the early stages of the qualifiers, they weren’t able to take the SEA slot. Instead, TNC took them down. In a similar manner, they also came close in the ESL Katowice 2019 SEA qualifiers, a non-DPC tournament. And once again, TNC took them down, taking the SEA slot while they placed in second. And in just the recent StarLadded ImbaTV Minor SEA qualifiers, they also finished second place, handing over the SEA slot to BOOM ID.
No doubt, it was tough for such a young team to compete in the SEA region. SEA region has always dished out 2 qualifying slots for Majors and 1 slot for Minors. This is because of Mineski, Fnatic, and TNC dominating the scene with sheer power and technique. And after another close call for the StarLaddder ImbaTV Minor qualifiers, the organization decided to let go of their team members. According to their Facebook post, they will help the 5 players to find new homes to continue their esports career.
