It was a fiery night indeed! Our Philippine pride lava-walked her way to the crown and brought it home. Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018.
The entire nation is celebrating because of our very own, Catriona Gray brought back the Miss Universe 2018 crown to the Philippines!
Catriona Gray is a Filipina-Australian beauty—she is a host, a model, a Martial arts black belter, a singer, and the fourth Filipina crowned as Miss Universe.
Back in 2016, the beauty queen represented the Philippines in the Ms. World Pageant held at the MGM National Harbor, Washington, D.C., United States. The entire nation had high hopes that she would win. Unfortunately, she only made to the top 5. The young lady was devastated and kept quiet for some time. She rebuilt herself and made a transformation as she reemerged January 2018 in Binibining Pilipinas.

It is evident that Catriona Gray and everyone who helped her in her Ms. Universe journey did their utmost efforts to give our country pride. From the lava walk, the impressive national costume, the beautiful Adarna dress, and the red-hot Mayon Gown!

Catriona slayed the Ms. Universe preliminary runway during the swimsuit segment with her amazing walk and a signature turn that seemed like she’s in slow motion. This was dubbed as the “Lava Walk” and made everybody’s jaw drop to the floor. She’s indeed a talented model!
The “LUZVIMINDA: Magdiwang. Lumaban. Pagyamanin” National Costume
The recently crowned Ms. Universe showcased a different Philippine National Costume compared to the past representatives. Instead of a Filipiña dress, she opted to wear the “LUZVIMINDA: Magdiwang. Lumaban. Pagyamanin” national costume.
This spectacular creation represents the 3 group of islands of the Philippines, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and the diverse culture of Filipinos. The national costume that was well applauded in the competition was joint efforts of Eric Quiwa, a parol maker, Jearsond, a fashion designer, Carlos Buendia, and artist/architect, and the legendary pageant heel maker, Jojo Bragais.
The Ibong Adarna Dress
The Miss Universe 2018 preliminary evening gown that Catriona wore was inspired by the well-known Filipino poem about the magical bird, Ibong Adarna. The stunning gown has a bareback, high slit, and covered in custom designed feathers. It was designed by the brilliant designer, Mak Tumang.
MAYON: Fiery and Lovely Perfection Gown
Catriona Gray set the Miss Universe 2018 stage on fire during the grand coronation night’s evening gown segment wearing Mak Tumang’s Mt. Mayon inspired gown. The gorgeous gown, her famous three-stars-and-a-sun ear cuffs, combined with the beauty queen’s lava walk definitely made it HAWT in the arena.

During the final question and answer portion of the competition, Catriona expressed the most important lesson in her life is seeing beauty in anything and everything. She said that despite the negative things she has experienced and witnessed, she taught herself to remain positive and she wants to share this learning to the world, rather the universe.
The beautiful soul was crowned Miss Universe 2018 last December 17 at the IMPACT Arena, Bangkok, Thailand. And she expressed her joy and gratefulness to everyone who supported her in her journey to the crown and her future endeavors.
