TIME CAPSULE: Our Favorite Christmas Jingles

It’s the most wonderful tiiiime of the year! Yes! It’s the holiday season and you know what that means… Christmas lights, Christmas sales, and our favorite Christmas jingles!

It’s that time of the year when we hear Jose Mari Chan in malls, salons, grocery stores, jeepneys, heck! even in your favorite sari-sari store. We’re not complaining though! Cause his songs are classics for Christmas! But aside from his songs, there are plenty more of our favorite Christmas jingles and we’re here to list ’em all down.

1. Christmas in Our Hearts

Wherever there are people
Giving gifts, exchanging cards
I believe that Christmas
Is truly in their hearts

Of course, we are starting with Jose Mari Chan’s ‘Christmas in Our Hearts’. Just by hearing the intro we can visualize Santa on his sleigh and kids running around with gleeful faces, and hugs (tons of it). The song’s goal pretty much reminds us to remember the very reason why we celebrate the holidays and that is the birth of Christ.

2. Kumukutikutitap

Kumukutikutitap, bumubusibusilak
Ganyan ang indak ng mga bumbilya
Kikindat – kindat, kukurap -kurap
Pinaglalaruan ng inyong mga mata

Ryan Cayabyab‘s ‘Kumukutikutitap’ is definitely a Pinoy Christmas classic. It talks of the beautiful Chrismas lights that we use to decorate our houses and how they stunningly twinkle as they mark the start of the season.

3. Ang Pasko ay Sumapit

Ang Pasko ay sumapit
Tayo ay mangagsi-awit
Ng magagandang himig
Dahil sa ang Diyos ay pag-ibig
Nang si Kristo ay isilang
May tatlong haring nagsidalaw
At ang bawat isa
Ay nagsipaghandog ng tanging alay

To this day, it is still not clear who actually composed the song ‘Ang Pasko Ay Sumapit’ but a lot of the evidence point to Vicente Rubi. But regardless of who’s responsible for the creation of this song, it is still going to be a staple in every Pinoy Christmas playlist and children will keep on singing this door to door as they go karoling.

4. Pasko Na Naman O’kay Tulin Ng Araw

Pasko! Pasko!
Pasko na naman muli.
Tanging araw na ating pinakamimithi.
Pasko! Pasko!
Pasko na naman muli.
Ang pag-ibig naghahari!

Another karoling classic! Children have been singing this song for decades and it never gets old. It talks about how time flies by so fast that it’s the holidays once again and how exciting this season is for us. Pretty simple, pretty catchy.

5. Sa Maybahay

Sa maybahay ang aming bati
‘Merry Christmas’ na maluwalhati
Ang pag-ibig ‘pag siyang naghari
Araw-araw ay magiging Paskong lagi

The OG Pinoy karoling song! My gahd! This song had so many versions, we mean like literally on the spot kids would sing this song in different languages not known to man. The lyrics of this song got flipped and rotated so many times that even we’re not sure how it’s sung anymore (kidding). Here’s a sample of how Pinoy kids would sing it: Sa maybahay mawawalhati, meri krismas mawawalhati. If you’re able to translate that, congratulations! But hey, we guess as long as you hit the tune right you’re all good.
