TIME CAPSULE: Best Harana Songs of All-Time
December 3, 2018 Feather Casilan
Admit it girls (or even boys)… you love being serenaded whether or not you reciprocate the person’s feelings. And since it’s a thing in the Philippines, here’s our list of the best harana songs of all-time!
If you’ve experienced someone making “harana” or serenade to you, you’d prolly get what I’m saying. It’s just so sweet and very thoughtful! Having someone show their affection to you in such an adorable gesture can really make you swoon!
Ahhhh, how I miss the old days when someone would actually put that much effort to make us feel special. Because really now! Waves on Facebook or trying to win you over with a bottle of beer doesn’t scream “effort”! With that note, let’s feel nostalgic with our list of the best harana songs of all-time!
10. Thunder – Boys Like Girls
Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you’re unlike any other?
You’ll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don’t wanna ever love another
You’ll always be my thunder
Ahhhhhh, this one is taking me back to my elementary days! Remember when you’re still that innocent when it comes to love and thought that crushes are the real deal? Yep! And you’re lucky if your childhood crush sang ‘Thunder’ by Boys Like Girls to you! How nostalgic…
9. Your Guardian Angel – The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
I will never let you fall
I’ll stand up with you forever
I’ll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven
‘Your Guardian Angel’ by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus takes me back to my childhood days as well! It takes me back to the time wherein I have this cutie crush from another section and they’d perform this song during school events. And again, you’re the luckiest if someone made you swoon by serenading you with such a sweet song!
8. Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars
Oh, her eyes, her eyes make the stars look like they’re not shinin’
Her hair, her hair falls perfectly without her trying
She’s so beautiful and I tell her everyday
Yeah, I know, I know when I compliment her she won’t believe me
Need I say more? ‘Just The Way You Are’ by Bruno Mars has gotta be one of the SWEETEST SONGS there is! Having someone to sing this song to you in a proclamation of their love for you is just melting. It’s one thing that they like you enough to dedicate this song to you. But it’s another thing when they sing to you that you’re amazing no matter what!
7. Wherever You Will Go – The Calling
If I could, then I would
I’ll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low, I’ll go wherever you will go
Ahhhhh, someone who’s willing to go with you anywhere, anytime is a different level of love, don’t you think? No wonder ‘Wherever You Will Go’ by The Calling made it to this list of the best harana songs of all-time! Whether you can reciprocate the feelings or not, it’s still good to know that there’s someone who’s willing to hold your hand to whatever end.
6. I’ll Be – Edwin McCain
I’ll be your cryin’ shoulder
I’ll be love suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life
Admit it, you prolly dreamt of having a candlelight dinner date and be able to dance this one with live music. And most especially, you’ve yearned for someone to serenade you with Edwin McCain’s ‘I’ll Be’! This song is truly the bomb and would definitely turn your whole face red when someone you like makes harana to you with this one!
5. Kundiman – Silent Sanctuary
Kung hindi man tayo hanggang dulo
Wag mong kalimutan
Nandito lang ako
Hindi ako lalayo
Dahil ang tanging panalangin ko ay ikaw
Ahhhhhh, another one! Whether or not you can return the love the person has, ‘Kundiman’ by Silent Sanctuary definitely is the sweetest. Not only is it a confession of adoration, but it also assures that even if the love is not returned, the person would still be there for you. Because that’s how genuine their feelings is *sniffs*. C’mon love the person back already (kidding)!
4. Ngiti – Ronnie Liang
Sa iyong ngiti ako’y nahuhumaling
At sa tuwing ikaw ay gagalaw
Ang mundo ko’y tumitigil
Para lang sayo
Ang awit ng aking puso
Sana’y mapansin mo rin
Ang lihim kong pagtingin
Someone telling you they like you? Someone telling you that your smile makes them crazy? Someone telling you that their world stops when you’re again? Ultra swoon bruuuhhh!!! You’re at your best when you’re smiling and someone appreciating them is totally blush-causing! And that’s why ‘Ngiti’ by Ronnie Liang is one of the best harana songs!
3. Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko – Rey Valera
Kung tayo ay matanda na
Sana’y di tayo magbago
Nasaan ma’y ito ang pangarap ko
Being told in such a way that they wanna be with you even when you’re old takes your heart to another dimension! Don’t believe us? Wait ’til someone sings ‘Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko’ by Rey Valera! Affection and adoration can be time-limited, that’s the harsh truth. So this song is on a whole new level!
2. Pangarap Lang Kita – Parokya Ni Edgar
Mabuti pa sa lotto
May pag-asang manalo
Di tulad sayo..impossible
Prinsesa ka, ako’y dukha
Sa TV lang naman kasi may mangyayari
At kahit mahal kita, wala akong magagawa
Tanggap ko ‘to aking sinta
Pangrap lang kita
This song is so cute, right? Parokya Ni Edgar’s ‘Pangarap Lang Kita’ is that! Knowing that they don’t have the chance but still taking a leap. If that doesn’t show how much they like you, I don’t know what will! And the fact that they are being humble with themselves while professing what they feel is plus 100 points for them! Truly a harana song at its finest.
1. Harana – Parokya Ni Edgar
Uso pa ba ang harana?
Marahil ikaw ay nagtataka
Sino ba ‘tong mukhang gago?
Nagkandarapa sa pagkanta
At nasisintunado sa kaba
Meron pang dalang mga rosas suot nama’why
Maong na kupas
At nariyan pa ang barkada
Nakaporma naka barong sa awiting daig pa minus one at sing along
Being serenaded is just so sweet, right? And this list can really take you back in time when love was so good and can make you swoon. Oops, no #hugot intended!
