Having a hard time forgetting about your ex and taking a step forward? Maybe our top songs that will teach you how to move on could give you strength!
Ahhh I know, I know. There are times when you’d feel so lost after a breakup that you don’t know which step to take to get better. You’d want to drown yourself with your tears or alcoholic drinks, and that’s okay—you do you!
But always remember that after the release, you have to pick yourself up. Start moving on and start loving yourself because you don’t need a partner to make yourself complete! And with that note, I am willing to share with you my playlist of top songs that will teach you how to move on. This helped me out, I hope it can shed some light for you too!
10. Love Myself – Hailee Steinfeld
I’ll take it nice and slow
Feeling good on my own without you, yeah
Got me speaking in tongues
The beautiful, it comes without you, yeah
Yass gurl!!! Love yourself because you don’t need anybody else doing it for you—that’s the message of Hailee Steinfeld’s ‘Love Myself’. You are a strong, independent woman (or man)! Sure you want some lambing too, but at the end of the day, self-love is so much better! Beauty in life isn’t associated by having a partner, it’s all about you, your love for yourself, and your perspectives in life.
9. Thru These Tears – LANY
‘Cause everyday I let go
Just a little bit more
In the end I’m gonna be alright
But it might take a hundred sleepless nights
It’s okay hun! Everything takes time, just like the message encapsulated in ‘Thru These Tears‘ by LANY. There’s nothing wrong if right now, you just want to cry your heart out because that’s a release. Even if you’re getting pissed at yourself for crying so much, remember that one day, you’ll finally stop crying. Because as each day passes, you let go bit by bit. Baby steps, sweetie. You’ll get there!
8. Shout Out To My Ex – Little Mix
Shout out to my ex, you’re really quite the man
You made my heart break and that made me who I am
Here’s to my ex, hey, look at me now
Well, I, I’m all the way up
I swear you’ll never bring me down
Oops, that shade tho! Well, bitterness aside please, let’s try not to be that petty even if it gets on our nerves. Because remember, the one who’s really moved on shouldn’t be such a sour puss, ‘kay? Anyways, ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ by Little Mix can be seen in a positive note, of course. Despite that person breaking our hearts, remember—you can always rise up! And when you do, he/she can no longer drag you down. 😉
7. IDGAF – Dua Lipa
So I cut you off
I don’t need your love
‘Cause I already cried enough
I’ve been done
I’ve been movin’ on since we said goodbye
Remember that brutal process of moving on then all of a sudden, your ex decides to rise up from the dead and come back to your life? Uh, hard pass, ladies and gents! You’re already there, you’ve made it! So ignore his/her comeback and shut the doors! ‘IDGAF’ by Dua Lipa is a reminder to not let him/her in again, you’re stronger than that now!
6. Thank U, Next – Ariana Grande
Need I say more? ‘Thank U, Next‘ by Ariana Grande has gotta be our self-love and moving on anthem! This song is all about recognizing all the lessons that our previous partners taught us and not being so bitter just because we had our hearts broken. Because really now, before the pain and before you managed to move on… At one point in your life, you loved them a lot. And being able to accept all that shows that not only did you move on, but you grew as a person as well.
5. Someday – Nina
‘Cause, someday someone’s gonna love me
The way I wanted you to need me
Someday someone’s gonna take your place
One day I’ll forget about you
You’ll see I won’t even miss you
Alright, alright. I’m in no way condemning you for this kind of mindset by still thinking of your ex in regards with the future, because I’m here to help, right? We, at one point in our lives, used the message of ‘Someday’ by Nina to push us to move on. Because yeah, someday someone would finally love us the way we deserved to be loved. And when that day comes, we have to make sure we won’t miss out on that chance because we’re still stuck in the past. Right, right?
4. Before I Let You Go – Side A & Freestyle
You’ll be forever in my heart
And I know that no one else will do
So before I let you go
I want to say “i love you”
Okay, fine. Maybe ‘Before I Let You Go’ by Freestyle doesn’t showcase enough determination in moving on. But hold up! It’s okay, guys! It’s okay to think that you’ll love them forever and still wish that you still have another shot. Just don’t get your hopes up, okay? Let go. You can let go despite still loving the person. In fact, it’s not like you can truly unlove someone. They will always have a special place in your heart despite everything. Just know how to put a step forward, ‘kay?
3. Sa Hindi Pag-Alala – Munimuni
Kakalimutan na kita
Siguraduhin mong hindi talaga pwedeng tayo
Napagisipan mo na ba
Dahil kakalimutan na kita
Gahhhhh this song! Yup, I know. “What if we decide to finally move on then when I’m better, he/she comes back?” Trust me, I get where you’re coming from. And ‘Sa Hindi Pag-Alala’ by Munimuni talks exactly of that. But really tho, you gotta know where to draw the line. You can’t put everything on hold and keep hurting yourself by the wishful thinking that they’d come back. Move on, prioritize yourself. Whatever happens from then, only time can really tell, really.
2. Kathang Isip – Ben&Ben
Diba nga ito ang iyong gusto?
O, ito’y lilisan na ako
Mga alaala’y ibabaon
Kalakip ang tamis ng kahapon
Do yourself a favor and know when to walk out when they already made you feel that they don’t want you in their life anymore. I know its horrible and devastating to think of but self-respect should really enter the picture. Walk out, start the process of moving on, and soon you’d find yourself not feeling the need to cry yourself to sleep. You deserve someone who’d appreciate you being in their life, so go give ‘Kathang Isip’ by Ben&Ben a listen!
1. Malaya – Moira Dela Torre
Pasensya na, kung papatulugin na muna
Ang pusong napagod kakahintay
Kaya sa natitirang segundong kayakap ka
Maaari bang magkunwaring akin ka pa
Oh no, Moira Dela Torre‘s ‘Malaya’ is soooooo painful. Sometimes, you still wanna fight for that love but there comes a time wherein you’d realize you have to let go. And though ‘Malaya’ talks of wishing to get back together someday, it’ll give you the epiphany that there would come a time that you have to drop the weapons and retreat from the war. Because like we said, only time will tell, right?
Always remember, it’s okay to cry and take some shots. Just make sure that you’re gonna find ways to bounce back. Because at the end of the day, breaking up with your partner is tough but losing yourself is not supposed to be part of the equation. Love yourself! And no need to rush, everything’s at your own phase. Baby steps, babe!
