HOTTEST EVENTS IN MANILA: Joey Ayala Kwentong ML
September 10, 2018 UDOU TEAM
Joey Ayala is having a gig this Thursday at the Ayala Museum about Kwentong ML: Songs and Martial Law. And we think it’s totally timely, especially with the breaking news the Philippines got this afternoon.
What ‘breaking news’ are we talking about? The current president of the Philippines, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte announced this afternoon that he wants to ‘address the [Philippine] nation’ tomorrow, September 11, 2018. We know, we know. You’re probably wondering now—so how does that relate to the Joey Ayala gig?
Don’t worry, we gotchu! We’ll briefly explain below.
For now, here’s the official music video of Joey Ayala’s “Papel” (ft. Gloc 9, Denise Barbacena, and Silverfilter) to give you an idea of what to expect from the artist on Thursday.
As you might notice from the video, Joey Ayala is a folk/neofolk artist who’s brave enough to sing about his societal, political, and sometimes even environmental opinions, commentaries, and stand. Other notable songs from the artist include 90s tracks Karaniwang Tao, Agila, and Tabi Po.
He is a veteran in the music scene, releasing songs and albums since the 80s. You can learn more about him here.
So again, how does his gig relate to this afternoon’s breaking news? Well, we actually got the idea from YOU! We’ve been excited about this Joey Ayala gig since his last one in July. But since we saw your tweets about this afternoon’s breaking news, we knew even more that you would love to be at Thursday’s show too.
That’s right, we’ve been listening to your reactions on current issues, and here’re some of your top tweets about it:
Take your pick guys!
A. He will declare Martial Law
B. He will admit he has serious illness
C. He will step down from Presidency
D. He will rant just like always

These are only some of the top tweets on Twitter, and we’re sure you have a lot more to say. But one thing’s for sure, we saw that a lot of you are concerned about Martial Law. And since this will be one of the main points of Joey Ayala’s Thursday show, we think his music may give you more insight and understanding about the subject.
Here’s a tweet from Joey Ayala himself inviting you to his show.

Martial Law is a very sensitive topic for the Philippines, especially with today’s current issues. And we think Joey Ayala, in partnership with the Ayala Museum, will be a great venue for everyone to learn more about it through music. Catch the legendary folk singer and songwriter on September 13, Thursday starting 6:30PM at the Ayala Museum in Makati.
