MANILA’S HOTTEST: Golden Skater Margielyn Didal
September 4, 2018 UDOU TEAM
Margielyn Didal, skater athlete. Who would’ve thought this skater girl was destined to be one of Manila’s hottest golden girls?
Along with weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, golfers Yuka Saso and her teammates Kaye Lois Go and Bianca Pagdanganan, Margielyn Didal is the fourth Filipino golden girl to bring home a gold medal from the 2018 Asian Games.
See how Didal scored that gold medal in the video below!
And as Marge recently returned to the Philippines, we’re excited about how the playful athlete tells her story. And from her crazy antics and inspiring anecdotes, we’ve been keeping track.
Get to know Manila’s hottest golden skater girl with us as we round up some of her best moments on-cam!
Before she ever got to wipe the rink clean in the last Asian Games, Marge went through some rough times.
In an interview, she says,
But her talent was evident. In fact someone immediately noticed how she looks like a pro from the very first time she tried to ride a skateboard. That was when they invited her to join them every weekend to ride and the rest, as they say, is history.
In one of our favorite interviews of Marge, she recounts that by the first week of practice, she’s already learned some of the basic tricks of the sport. And if you don’t know, this is IMPRESSIVE. Most skaters only learn the basic tricks she learned from up to a month to even a year of practice.
And aside from talent, Marge also has personality and spunk. When asked about how she feels now because of where her skills has gotten her she jokes,
Hindi, mayabang ako. Tsaka sobrang kulit…dati hobby-hobby lang, tapos ‘yon kupit kay mama ng pera papuntang skatepark, hiram-hiram ng board.
And after no’n, bigla lang pinasok ‘yong skateboarding [sa Asian Games] this year.
Since her win, a lot has changed for the athlete. And when she’s asked about how she feels about all the cameras and attention she’s getting now, she playfully says, “Mahiyain po ako eh. [Nagpapacute] sa camera.”
Nonetheless, Marge keeps a humble heart and when asked about her competitors in the sport, she always sticks to this belief:
In the name of skateboarding nga, lahat tropa, lahat ka-close mo agad. Especially, same passion ‘yong ginagawa mo.

Margielyn Didal is an inspiration not just to Filipino athletes and skaters, but to Filipinos all over the world. And what we love about her is how she does it—with passion and personality! U do u, Marge!
