If you haven’t heard of Hansom band, then you’re missing out on some angsty humor punk rock. Although, this band has been around since 2010 when they released their first album Kanta ang Panlaban, they had quite a long hiatus until they released an EP in 2017 called I Found Cubao.
Hansom band also released a music video for their song “Stretching” which is the first single from that same EP, which features the brothers revisiting their younger years as they wear school uniforms and cause some kind of brawl inside the classroom.
In an interview with Bandwagon, they shared some insights about their sound and image. “Hansom has always in essence been a band all about having fun and not taking anything too seriously.” Drummer, Aldo explains.
“Our older songs had a heavily high school skewed humor because that was the life stage we were in. You could say that that’s how the sense of humor came out back then. Nowadays we still like to have silly fun so while the content of the songs has changed, the point is to just play around. So in this music video we made a whole school campus into our playground. The new element in some of our newer songs including stretching though is an active attempt to put a positive message into what we say. So we’re still silly but now with a greater skew to positive energy.”
This specimen of a quartet are continuing to gain a new generation of fans and fangirls in the local music scene today, as they play in events such as Fête de la Musique 2018 and the recent Warner TV’s Pop Expo along with Cheats, BennyBunnyBand, and Nanay Mo.
It’s no mistake that Hansom band stands out not only because of their style musically and aesthetically, but also because of their individual characters that magnetically reflects into their music.
