BP Valenzuela to Join SXSW 2018 Lineup
January 11, 2018 UDOU TEAM
BP Valenzuela is a woman of many talents and she’s taking hers to the famed South by Southwest (SXSW) festival! She’ll be making her live US debut in Austin Texas from March 9 to 18.
BP Valenzuela—Bigger and Better
Prior to her freshman year in university, BP began making music since she was 12 years old. She taught herself the classical guitar before taking lessons. It was her experience with a lazy audio engineer a year after that made her learn the ropes of producing. She bought books and read information online, although she didn’t gain the vocal confidence until she was 18. She released “be/ep” in 2014 and BP didn’t expect it to explode the way it did. Her name began to leave people’s lips, and a year later her debut full-length album “The Neon Hour” hit the shelves. Following the success of her previous releases two years after, she launched her sophomore album “Crydancer” after her 22nd birthday.
Scrutiny has also followed her alongside her success. BP is a woman of strong words and isn’t afraid to disagree with you. She’s called out the members of the LOGICLUB collective—a group of artists she was once a part of—and SUD for their misogynistic ways, spoken up about social injustices in the country, and other various issues surrounding the Philippines’ political state. She pulled out of Rakrakan presents: OPM Against Drugs 2017 with Cheats, Taken by Cars, Techy Romantics, and KZ Tandingan after claiming that she wasn’t informed of the festival’s message beforehand. The singer/songwriter/producer will take none of your shit today, tomorrow, or any time soon.
As the years go by, SXSW became a platform for artists like Hanson and John Mayer to break into the mainstream. Web giants and mobile apps like Twitter and Meerkat also got massive boosts from SXSW Interactive. Some of Hollywood’s major films such as “Baby Driver”, “The Hurt Locker”, “Furious 7”, and recently “The Disaster Artist” all held their premiers during the festival too.
BP Valenzuela will be one of the 500+ artists to perform during the 10-day festival. Acts from different areas of the globe will be meeting in Austin, Texas for SXSW 2018. Drop by if you’re in the area and you’re sure to catch the next big thing!
