DMX Blesses Us with ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ Remix
December 1, 2017 UDOU TEAM
It’s been a long time coming, but DMX finally recorded and released his cover of “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” on Spotify. Here’s something you can add to your Christmas playlist to piss off your unnecessarily conservative relatives!
Prior to DMX making us lose our minds (up in here), he went through an abusive childhood that resulted in frequent stays at group homes and arrests. He eventually found his niche in music, first signing with Columbia Records in 1992 then Def Jam Recordings in 1998. He released two albums that year: his first major label album “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” in May and “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood” in December. They both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making him the first rapper in history to have released two number one albums in the same year.
He released five other albums, the last being “Undisputed” in 2012. He’s currently in the studio recording his eighth studio album and has collaborated with Swizz Beatz, Kanye West, and Dr. Dre to name a few. His single “Bain Iz Back” made its rounds in January of this year but there’s no news to a follow up single as of yet. For now, let’s enjoy his rendition of one of our favorite Christmas songs.
But Do You Remember the Most Famous Reindeer of All?
Just so everyone knows, there’s a history to this cover and it’s not just some random thought that DMX decided to pursue. Back in 2012, a video of the rapper in the Power 105.1 radio station went viral just in time for the holidays. One of the station’s staff asks him politely to do a rendition of the song, and DMX jumped on it with excitement. He starts off with a few bars before banging on the table for a beat to the full song, and ending it with a loud “WHAT!” in his signature scruffy voice.
A huge shoutout to DMX for finally making a recorded version of the remix and for keeping us in the holiday spirit. Ah, Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year.
