Drum roll please—nominations for the 2018 Grammys are finally here! Leading the pack this year is none other than Jay-Z with eight nominations, followed by Kendrick Lamar with seven, Bruno Mars with six, and SZA (YES GIRL), Childish Gambino, No I.D., and Khalid with five. Here are the rest of the nominees for the four General Field categories and who we’ve got our bets on.

Album of the Year

  • Childish Gambino – “Awaken, My Love!”
  • Jay-Z – “4:44”
  • Kendrick Lamar – “DAMN.”
  • Lorde – “Melodrama”
  • Bruno Mars – “24K Magic”

We’ve got our bets on either Kendrick Lamar or Bruno Mars for Album of the Year, although Childish, Hov, and Lorde’s albums are undeniably their best so far so we can still sleep soundly at night with whoever wins. Fun fact: this is the first time since 1999 that a white man isn’t nominated for the prestigious category!

Record of the Year

  • Childish Gambino – “Redbone”
  • Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee f/ Justin Bieber – “Despacito”
  • Jay Z – “The Story of O.J.”
  • Kendrick Lamar – “Humble”
  • Bruno Mars – “24K Magic”

Our disappointment will break the roof if “Despacito” wins. Sorry Biebs, but literally all the other nominees in this category have got us hooked. Who do we think will snag the award? Like the previous category, it’s down between “Humble” and “24K Magic” but “The Story of O.J.” and “Redbone” comes very, very close.

Song of the Year

  • Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee f/ Justin Bieber – “Despacito”
  • Jay Z – “4:44”
  • Julia Michaels – “Issues”
  • Logic f/ Alessia Cara and Khalid – “1-800-273-8255”
  • Bruno Mars – “That’s What I Like”

Upon asking around the office, our top three choices are “That’s What I Like”, “1-800-273-8255”, and “Despacito”. From Bruno Mars’ catchy hook, to Logic’s meaningful message, and finally to Biebs’ dance-y chorus, this year’s Song of the Year category is one to watch out for.

Best New Artist

  • Alessia Cara
  • Khalid
  • Lil Uzi Vert
  • Julia Michaels
  • SZA

The Best New Artist category is the hardest among the four that we had to decide on, but our top three goes to Khalid, Lil Uzi Vert, and our girl SZA who is the most-nominated woman for this Grammy cycle! In a cast with a majority of male artist, it’s refreshing to see a powerful woman on top. Now, let’s cross our fingers and pray she wins all five categories.

Lana Del Rey, Arcade Fire, The Weeknd, Tyler, the Creator and the rest of the nominees are now up on the official Grammy website. The 60th annual Grammy Awards will take place on January 28, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
