The xx Returns to Manila This February 2018

CONCERT ALERT—English indie pop band The xx are stopping by Manila on February 7, 2018! We last saw The xx in four years ago when they performed in a jam packed NBC Tent, but next year they’ll be playing for us at the World Trade Center in Pasay.
Oliver Sim, Romy Madley Croft, Baria Qureshi, and Jamie Smith (xx) met while studying at Elliott School, an institution known to produce musicians and actors such as The Maccabees, Peter Green, and Pierece Brosnan. However, the school’s influence didn’t seem to help their career and the group event went as far as to say that they “were left alone, more than anything—although I’m sure that helped us in its on way.” Sim and Croft formed the band as a duo when they ere 15 years old while Qureshi and and Smith joined the band in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
They released their self-titled debut album with British independent record label Young Turks in 2009. Qureshi quit (or was fired from, depends on who you want to believe) the band shortly after. Regardless, the hype didn’t stop there; the group won the esteemed Mercury Prize in 2010, putting them with the likes of fellow winners Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand. Even queen Rihanna sampled their song “Intro” on her track “Drunk on Love.”
In September 2012, they streamed their sophomore album “Coexist” in a collaboration with Internet Explorer a week or so before its release. They toured for two years straight to support the album and included Manila in their Asia tour. News of a third studio album began to spread in May 2014, but this proved to be tedious wait for fans. Jamie xx released his solo album a year after the band’s announcement, and they eventually released “I See You” in January 2017.
Welcome Back to Manila!
“I See You” received generally pleasant reviews from notable music publications such as Q, NME, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone. The xx recently just concluded the first leg of their supporting tour but it seems like they’re ready for more. They’ll also be hitting up Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Taipei, Osaka, and Tokyo during their Asia tour from late January to early February. Ticket prices are to be announced, but general ticket sales begin noon of Friday, October 20.
