One of the much coveted music festivals in the Philippines has finally arrived. After numerous issues that surrounded the rave scene last year, everyone is excited to bring back the glory days of EDM.
This year’s line up included Sam Feldt, Rezz, Getter, and headlined by Zedd and Hardwell. They were also joined by two of our best local DJs, Deuce and Marc Marasigan. Similar to 2016’s RTU PH event, this year’s venue was supposed to be MOA Concert Grounds but was moved a few days prior to the event to MOA Arena due to the storms. Luckily, we had clear skies come event day.
Ultra Show Time
The show started at 5 PM with Patty Tiu (aka Deuce) getting things going for everyone, followed by Marc Marasigan’s set. Both DJs represented the Philippines so well across the Ultra Worldwide franchise. Sam Feldt’s set had this feel good vibe to it, everyone was just chill since it was still pretty early and the party’s just getting started. Aside from this year’s RTU event, Feldt was recently at the Philippines for a show in Valkyrie and had such good feedback then. It’s no wonder that he was so glad to be back, proudly waving our flag to the audience present.
Out of all the performers this year, I think Rezz is the most underrated in the Philippine crowd. She gave out this unique sound that is solely hers and showed that she deserved to be on those decks and be heard by the Filipinos. Hopefully when she comes back, Filipinos will be able to identify to her more. As the crowd was starting to come in, Getter began his set. His head-banging tunes were enough to hype up the crowd for sets following him. He looked so chill all throughout playing his mixes of many hiphop and trap songs.
Everyone started getting crazy when it was finally time for Zedd’s set. He built up the crowd’s energy by playing a slow intro to his track ‘Beautiful Now’ and a dark arena. Hearing an arena full of people singing to the beat of the song was something special and exciting. Zedd followed up his heavy intro with his mixes of several collaborations with various artists. Most of the time during his set, everyone was just dancing and singing along. As per usual, Zedd has this amazing visuals to go along his set.
It was a good thing that RTUPH was sponsored by this particular energy drink, because for Hardwell’s set, you definitely need high reserves of energy. He started with an intense ID intro and kept that pace all throughout. He also played his popular and some of his new songs, much to everyone’s delight. Hardwell got everyone jumping up and down not just because of his songs, but also by watching him jumping and dancing while on the decks. Maybe that’s Hardwell’s way of giving back to the Filipino crowd after cancelling last minute last year. One thing’s for sure though, he looked so happy to finally be here again. Hardwell ended his set at exactly 3 AM.
Overall, this year’s RTU PH event was a huge success and many are hoping for a full Ultra event in the years to come.
