Get ready to release your middle school feels—Secondhand Serenade just confirmed a Philippine stopover early next year! Time to bring out your acoustic guitars and relearn his songs.
The Power of Honesty
Prior to the formation of Secondhand Serenade, Vesely spent eight years playing bass for bands ranging from ska and hardcore to rock and pop. Upon picking up the acoustic guitar, he welcomed the honesty that comes along with the instrument. He recorded “Awake” initially as a demo in 2005 and thanks to the power of MySpace, Glassnote Records signed Vesely about a year later.
The label reissued “Awake” in 2007 with two new songs. It hit the Billboard 200, Top Heatseekers, and the Independent Albums chart. His schedule included tours with bands like The All-American Rejects, South by Southwest gigs alongside My Chemical Romance, and The Bamboozle with Linkin Park.
Vesely’s sophomore album A Twist in My Story featured a few songs from the first record, but this time produced with a full band. Singles like “Fall For You,” “Maybe,” and “Your Call” became every lovesick middle schooler’s anthem. After leaving Glassnote Records in 2012, he crowdfunded his fourth album “Undefeated.”
A Decade Later
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of his debut album, Vesely released “Awake: Remixed & Remastered, 10 Years & 10,000 Tears Later” under Glassnote. In a phone interview with ABS-CBN News, he announced his intention of coming to the Philippines in early 2018. He’ll be touring the United States first, taking a break, and then continuing the tour overseas.
Venue and dates are yet to be confirmed, but the musician is most excited to play old songs that everybody can sing. It’s been a while since we last cried—I mean belted—out to a Secondhand Serenade track, but it looks like we need to get back to practicing!
