It has been four months since GetMusic: Indie-Go, where up and coming bands like Autotelic, SUD, and Jensen and the Flips played inside a world-class venue, the Mall of Asia Arena. This time, Smart and MCA Music Inc. brings us GetMusic: NU Rock Years, a reunion of sorts for the bands that have played at the iconic and now defunct alternative radio station, NU 107.5.

Hearing about this show made me realize that this November would mark the seventh year of NU107.5 shutting down. I still remember when the station played its last song “Ang Huling El Bimbo” by Eraserheads and hearing the haunting static that made the departure of the alternative rock station real.
The DJs and bands that visited the station and played their songs during its last week in November 2010 always said that NU is more than a station but it’s a family. The heavy emotions and tears filled the radio station and it definitely felt like an impending death of a loved one.
I admit that I didn’t grew up listening to NU, but I was there during its last days. The songs I listen to now that shaped who I am, I learned disvored through NU. I learned from the bands and the DJs the values of hard work and passion for local music that haven’t been for nothing because if you look at our local music scene now, OPM is definitely alive and kicking.
I wonder what it would be like if NU 107.5 is here to witness it.
‘We’re Going Home’
Indeed it will be a homecoming and a celebration for the local music scene. It feels like NU Rock Awards all over again.
NU Rock Years is a homage to the roots of our current music scene, because without them, I doubt that the bands that played at GetMusic: Indie-Go would even exist.
I sure hope that this wouldn’t be the last of it and I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that our home of NU rock, would be rebuilt again.
