On July 28, JAM 88.3 along with San Miguel Pale Pilsen brings you the first ever Locals Only Presents. The lineup is filled with both rising and veteran musicians straight from the Locals Only playlist: catch Assembly Generals, Flying Ipis, Tarsius, and more in Tomatokick Morato.
After DJ Russ Davis relocated to New Zealand, 88.3 lost the much beloved show Fresh Filter. It was a melancholy goodbye for listeners who had been following Russ’ all-local, independent music-based show. It truly was the end of an era, with publications covering his departure, fans attending his last Fresh Filter LIVE! to bid their goodbyes, and Twitter exploding with #ThankYouRussDavis tweets.

The local music scene also waved goodbye to Russ’ wife Selena Davis. A member of the admired band Ang Bandang Shirley, she announced that her last gig with the group was their ‘Favorite’ album launch. Selena even wrote a parting message for each past and present member of the band. Ang Bandang Shirley continues to make music though and we have high hopes that she’ll be back with the band in the future.
A New Hope
The station quickly filled our empty hearts and ears with the new generation—Locals Only by the multi-talented DJ Lianne. The show follows suit to its predecessor, promoting raw local music to a much younger market. DJ Lianne encourages artists to send in their demos for the possibility of airtime, allowing listeners to check out their music even before they’re put on the spotlight. If that’s enough to make you tune in, DJ Lianne is hilarious on Twitter and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.

If you’re a local artist or band either unsigned OR signed to an independent label, this is your chance! Locals Only is always looking for new tracks from anyone and anywhere in the country to showcase. As long as your sound is outside the mainstream, you can send your mixed MP3s (256 kbps and above only!) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure to add a band profile with your submission so she has some info on you.
An “assigned collective” then undergoes a blind screening. This collective will have the last say on whether or not your track gets played. If they really like it, your track could be included in the 88.3 library. So what are you waiting for? Record, mix, then send your track and we might just see you on the next Locals Only Presents!
