Stages Sessions: Independent

Aptly named, Independent was a concert held at the Maybank Theater on June 11th 2017 (a day before the Philippine Independence Day), featuring performances from Stages’ talents, Bullet Dumas, Keiko Necesario, Curtismith, Coeli, Gio Levy, and adjoined by their friends, Tom’s Story.

If you thought Independent was going to be just like any other concert, Stages Sessions arranged the performances to be accompanied by a mini-orchestra – something that does not happen regularly to many music artists.

Each talent was allowed 3 songs to perform, each playing their originals in a way that sounded fresh to the audience’s ears, thanks to the orchestral accompaniment.

Even though the event was supposedly a nod to the grand national holiday, I think this chat with Keiko shed a different kind of light to the purpose of the entire celebration.

“Independence is the freedom of learning who you are on your own terms through your own journey,” she says. “And it’s about being confident in who and what you turn out to be.” -Keiko Necesario
