Metro Manila is the number one go-to place for any of today’s hottest events. No wonder all the streets are always filled with cars trying to go from one Manila hangout place to another.

Besides the usual hottest places, there are some hidden gems in Manila for every occasion. Tired of the usual malls and clubs? We have just the list for you.

Cubao X

Cubao X

Many artists, skaters, hipsters and more call Cubao X their home. Almost anyone can find something they like at Cubao X.

For those looking for vintage stuff, the Gold Digger store is right there for you. You can find still-functional vinyl records and other old things that can be an addition to any of your collections.

There are also a number of artsy and punk-ish clothing stores. Another great find is The Warrior Poet Arts Space and Book Cafe. It has a pretty chill kind of vibe if you just want to sit down and have a cup of coffee.

Cubao X is pretty hard to spot if you don’t know the Manila hangout place exists in the first place. It’s near Alimall and is close to the new Araneta Center Bus Station. To get to Cubao X, you can take any jeepney crossing P.Tuazon.

Those coming from Antipolo or Marikina can also ride jeepneys that will be dropping off passengers outside Alimall. You can also ride the MRT or LRT to arrive at Araneta Center stations. From Gateway (LRT) or Farmers (MRT), you can walk towards Alimall. Cubao X is at the far end of the mall near the SM Savemore and Wellcome market.

Gameover Katipunan

Bars tend to have a negative impression for those who loves to chill and just play video games and board games. Gameover in Xavierville, Katipunan is a mix of a gaming cafe and a chill bar.

If you want to play video games while sipping craft beer, Gameover should be your Manila hangout place choice. They serve different kinds of craft beers as well as local and imported ones. Don’t be fooled. They also serve hard liquor too. They even have flaming shots for those willing to try it.

Gameover also has board games and old arcade machines. They also have a separate computer section for those who want to play LAN or online games. Fancy a game of Goldeneye 007? Yes, they have it too.

To get to Gameover, you’d really have to walk a bit. From LRT Katipunan station walk towards the 7-Eleven store near the jeepney terminal. If you arrive on the other side, you can use the overpass to cross the road. Don’t be stupid.

There are tricycles that can take you to Gameover for a fixed fee of PHP 17. You can choose to walk and just use a navigation app like Google Maps.

Or you can Grab or Uber. Yeah, just do that.

The Palace Pool Club

The Palace Pool Club

If you literally want to cool down from the hot weather in Manila, the best hangout place could be The Palace Pool Club. As the name suggests, it’s a club with a large-ass pool in it.

The Palace Pool Club has already welcomed some of the world’s hottest DJs such as Major Lazer, Steve Aoki, Alesso and recently, the realest herself, Iggy Azalea who just performed this weekend (April 1).

Of course, you will have to wear appropriate swimwear attire to fully enjoy the experience. They have lockers and towels that can be rented for your convenience.

Sad to say that The Palace Pool Club is at the edge of Uptown, Bonifacio. Commuting can be a pain. It is recommended that you arrive via taxi, Grab or Uber instead. Yay for technology!

Cup Fiction

If you prefer to sip a cup of coffee instead of downing a shot of vodka, Cup Fiction, located in Whiteplains, Katipunan, should be a great place for you. You can also stay here to work while enjoying coffee or eating their food.

Populate your Instagram feed with shots of the artsy walls. Do a flat lay shot for your food or drink. Or just enjoy the cool atmosphere in the cafe.

To get here, you can also use the LRT and get off at the Katipunan station. There are jeepneys that traverse the Katipunan Avenue.

Lovecraft

Lovecraft

Another chill place for food and drink lovers. Lovecraft is a food park that also opens at night. The whole place is air-conditioned which means you can totally chill out. Local artists usually play here too on weekends.

There are a lot of food stands that offer unique products as well. One of my personal favorites is Inari which sells burritos named after famous characters in pop culture. My first purchase was a Saitama burrito.

Lovecraft can be found along E. Rodriguez. You can ride a jeepney going to Quiapo from Gateway, Cubao. Lovecraft can be seen at the left side, it actually looks like a large restaurant from the outside.

Unit 27 Bar+Cafe

Unit 27 Bar

If you are craving for brunch even if it’s already dinner time, Unit 27 Bar+Cafe can help you out. They serve all-day brunches for those that want to still eat all brunch meals with a cup of coffee.

You can also grab your friends and play a short game of Beer Pong. If you’re really feeling brave, they have an open mic every Tuesday. Listen to your favorite artists such as Curtismith and SUD whenever they have a gig at the Bar+Cafe.

Conspiracy Garden Cafe

Popular local artists such as Joey Ayala, Bullet Dumas, Johnoy Danao and more frequent Conspiracy Garden Cafe. If you’re a fan of today’s indie local artists, good beer and sisig, then this place is for you.

Conspiracy Garden Cafe is open every day starting from 5:00 PM up to 2:00 AM so you’ll be able to chill even in the wee hours of the night. You can also eat good food here.

Unit 27 and Conspiracy Garden Cafe are also part of “The Gig Circuit” organized by our friends from Stages Sessions. Our feature on the gig will come out soon. Watch out for that!

Z Hostel

Z Hostel

Tired of all the partying and raving? Z Hostel is the place to rest, literally. It’s a hostel in Makati. No, the Z is not for zombies so you’re pretty much safe.

They also have a roofdeck bar which is perfect for those chilly evenings. Z Hostel is also near premiere clubs in Makati such as Valkyrie and TIME.

Let us know which are your favorite places to hangout in Manila?
