The term ‘excitement’ has proven itself inadequate since our favorite local RnB, Pop, and Soul band dropped “BDYTLK” as the first single off their sophomore album last month. And now with a newly released music video, the men of Jensen & The Flips finally talk about the catchy new single, its music video, as well as the new record which is currently in the works.
Written in just one day, the song gives us a peek of what to expect from the upcoming material, with the band pointing guitarist and backup vocalist, Sam Valenia, as the one responsible for the catchy hook. Although we know the Flips as a talented bunch of musicians, charming performers, and sweet individuals, we got the word that the yet-to-be-named next album is not going to sound as honeyed as what we have familiarized ourselves with since “Lovechild”, but is instead headed into a more “mature” and “aggressive” musical direction, according to frontman, Jensen Gomez, and as reflected in the TV5’s Mike Sandejas-directed music video featuring the model-contestants from Philippines’ Next Top Model (set to air March 21, 2017).
In spite of having a high-speed high-energy work schedule, the band is both nervous and excited for the project and has decided to take things slowly and be more adventurous with their sound as they go. The band’s sound engineer, Magic Montano, has pegged Bruno Mars and DNCE as musical inspirations for the album, while bassist, Choi, promised a full track in Tagalog to watch out for.
The group, who first introduced their unique Motown-inspired sound with Honeymoon three years ago, has been known and loved for grinding and killing it on- and off-stage ever since, consistently winning new fans and partners (literally) wherever they go. So, how surprising is it, really, that they are yet again cooking up a storm and back to creating a new record set to come out mid-2017?
There’s an exclusive video interview with Jensen & the Flips coming up to this space very, very soon. But for now, sit tight and enjoy these snaps that we managed to take from the event, whilst struggling to keep cool as they queued in “Dangerous” with a cute cover of TQ’s “Westside”.
